Default Will the wife be a problem?

As some of you may remember, I do not own a Vette yet... was planning on purchasing early next year. Well, yesterday we went by a local Chevy dealer and since the wife had not seen a C5 up close, we stopped and looked at a new one. To my disappointment, my wife was not very impressed. She didn’t like getting in and out of it and said it was too small. Well, I have wanted a Corvette since I was 8… she said go ahead and get one next year but you could tell she was not at all thrilled about the idea riding around in it.

Any of you guys have or had this type of problem?

Mine wasn't crazy about it either. She drives it every once in a while, and we get to cruise every once in a while, which is one of the few things we get to do without the kids.

It hasn't hurt our relationship, and I'm happy about owning a car I always wanted.

OH YES!!!!! I'm there with you! At least your wife rode in the car. Mine won't. So here is how it goes: you will REALLY enjoy your car as your hobby. Work on it yourself whenever you can, enjoy driving it. You won't have to argue over the radio or CD, never argue about the A/C turned down too cold. Mine supports me in my hobby, and may come around at some point. In the meantime, IT'S A BLAST!

Mine is the best in the world. She insisted that I get the Vette and helped me pick it out. She doesn't mind riding in it, but will only drive her Acura TL.

When I was "looking" for a Vette my wife said "you have always wanted one, the kids are gone, go for it".

My wife drives what she wants (I got to pay for it, but it is hers ) and I drive what I want. Since I [also] get to pay for what I drive, there really isn't any issue.

I have a Bonneville that is my daily driver and our family car. She has "her" Explorer.

And I have a couple toys.

I'm not married, but my girlfriend can be very opinionated. I've always been a car nut, and about 5 years ago I wanted a C5 Corvette. I didn't buy one right away, but I was always looking for the right one. Then I found it. It was in Ohio (and I was in PA). After doing my homework, I was sure I wanted to buy this car. My brother and I took a bus trip out to Ohio, and after test driving the car, I bought it and drove it home. My girlfriend wasn't happy at all. She didn't like the car, and she was being negative about the entire experience. She didn't like that I spent the money, she didn't like that I went so far for a car, etc, etc.. Now, after 4 years of owning the car and sharing it with her, she is crazy about it. I currently have it for sale (so I can put the money towards a new house), but she doesn't want me to sell it!!! I mean, she went from being totally against it to doing whatever she can to stop me from selling it! Of course, you never know how a woman will act, but if you can afford the car, and it's what YOU want, then I say go for it. You only live once and you deserve to get some nice things in life even if others don't want you to have them. Hopefully, she will start to like it and both of you can enjoy it. Good luck!

LOL, I've had my Z since June of 2003 and mine hasn't been in it either. She calls it the "useless car." Well, as far as I'm concerned, no skin off my butt. I like it better that way.

I say, if you want it and can afford it, then just do it. Talk done!

Maybe she noticed there was only 1 cup holder and that just really set her off.

Let her test drive and feel the difference. Next thing you know, she wants to get one.

If your wife thinks the Corvette is too small, that raises the obvious question.

How big is your wife?

Yes, and I have the perfect solution: find out the kind of car wifey likes and buy her one. Then she won't care so much about what you have.

My EX (how I got the car ) has been in mine once.

She got out and started complaining about how low the car was and the ride.

So I immediately had it lowered and added Hotchkis sway bars and Bilstein shocks.

No problems since then.

Default Sometimes trading in for a new model isn't bad

Wive's acceptance of Corvettes is all over the map. There are many couples in our Corvette club where the wife is just as enthusiastic, or more so, as the husband. Sometimes I wish my wife was like that, but she isn't. I finally got her to attend a Corvette cruise, but she did it only because it was my birthday. Of course she had a great time, but I suspect that I'll need to find another way to persuade her to go again. She says, that's your 'thing', not mine. Anyway, she lets me go and play, so I guess it's ok. Sounds like it will be ok for you too, let me know if you figure out any clever ways to get her more enthused.

12 years ago my wife was the one to get me into Vettes. She went to a Vette show at the mall and came home all pumped up about how we had to get a Vette. 14 Vettes later, we now have our own, mine is a restored 72 shark and she has her 02 triple black ragtop. This hobby is without a doubt the best thing other than family and close friends that could have happened to us. We travel nationwide to events, follow closely the C5R racing, and almost everything we wear has a Corvette emblem on it, well my clothes anyway. As many have said, the best part of this hobby is the Vette people and all the new friends you make. Get the Vette and I hope that your wife will learn to enjoy it. Buy it, drive it, and use it the way it was intended.
Good luck.

My wife started out very skeptical, but knew better than to try to get between me and my next "toy". I had a hard time convincing her to go with me to the Cruise-In (7 to 8 hour drive each way), but she went and, much to her surprize, had a blast - met lots of nice people and saw people who had spent way more on mods than I. After the trip, she admitted that despite the low seating position, the power and handling, that the Corvette was really comfortable to take a long trip in

The 30mpg we averaged for the trip also impressed her. The Vette is the most economical car we have as far as freeway speed fuel economy.

Bottom line, if you are going to have two or more vehicles, by all means make sure one is a Vette.
