Just about any name brand radar detector does the same thing with regards to saving drivers money from tickets.
Directional indicators are just a gimmick in my opinon because you will do the same thing no matter where the radar is coming from, namely slow down. But if that is something you want then get it. You can't go wrong with any name brand.........
I was skeptical about the V1 before I finally bought one. The arrows are NOT a gimmick. Without using the V1, a person could never appreciate how helpful they are. But the arrows alone are not the reason get one. The Bogey counter, audio alerts, strenght indicator in conjunction with the arrows are what make this a great unit.
I have an Escort 8500 (I purchased prior to the V1) in my SilveradoSS, and its a great unit. But I am not as comfortable with it, nor do I feel as informed as when I'm using the V1.
You slow down to get in line with the posted speed limit, that would hardly become a traffic hazard. Speeding is more of a hazard.
You haven't been exposed to the Illinois Tollway during non-rush! Posted is 55, traffic is 80 in the left lane, 70 in the right. I experienced the same on the DC Beltway. Surprised big cities on the west coast aren't similar. Illinois now has a law that states if you don't move over to allow faster traffic to pass, you can be ticketed. Stating that the other guy was speeding is NOT a legal defense. What a great law, eh? http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/t...ory.asp?id=181

...and perhaps you like golfing and fishing, too. We are all different, and you're likely right in stating a high-end detector is an unnecessary expense - a poor investment.
Me? I've never owned a set of clubs NOR a rod! :p:

Reason: fat finger fixes
I see I can't convert you detector users. Hey one of these days I may get one too. All I ask is that you slow down some and don't rely on your detector to save you. Driving is a priviledge and not a right, so I'd hate to see another Vette pilot eventually lose their license. Drive smart and be safe.
NOt to sound like I'm cheeeeeeeep or anything like that but has anyone purchased the special report that has the 5 secrets to using a radar detector from http://www.radartest.com/
If you wouldn't mind e-mailing it to me that would be great !!!
well, I guess radar detctors are like pretzels or potato chips. You pay your money and make your choice. Thanks for all the information. Now who has the best price?

Just something to think about.
I hope you're not making the erroneous assumption that ownership of a radar detector is prima facia evidence that the owner speeds. If so, then your ownership of a Corvette could easily do the same thing.

Unless there has been an increase over the last couple of years or so, I think the V1 still goes for $399 as far as I know. That's what it was going for when I bought mine. The Escort's pricing is approx $100 less but I haven't checked some of the vendors lately. TL Electronics (forum vendor) was selling Escorts as part of this product line last I heard. Shop for the best pricing on Escorts. Valentine does not have dealers; you have to go direct. HTH
V1 here. Every morning when I'm headed east on the freeway thru town I'll hear the k band go off it's always a cop coming west. In that case I can verify the threat using the 'gimmick' arrows not need to slow down.
With the V1's k band range you don't even need to hit the brakes on the first alert because the cop is usually a mile down the road. Good stuff.

Then the cop behind you didn't notice (because the gimmick arrows said your back was clear), pulls you over without ever using radar!

If there is also a cop behind you the V1 will flash both the up and down arrows together. It would also give a 2 count to let you know there was multiple radars and where they were.
In your instance, the only way a cop is gonna pull you over without using radar is if he's pacing you. And in that case it's your own fault for not paying attention.
