and you too can own a $50 plastic piece of crap with marginal detection.
marginal detection that detects further in Ka band? Makes me wonder? Is the V1 detection classified as "crappy" then since the x50 is marginal?? Lets face it...when you are talking 11 miles, .2 or less of a mile is NOTHING. Both are good units at what they do....detecting radar...I dont understand why this is such a battle...Its like Mac vs PC. Some people prefer the arrows, some prefer the blue LEDs...Cant we just leave it at that?
NEWS:
END of an era! R.I.P Escort 8500
Well, there has been a bit of a rush this month, for the Escort 8500. The New X50 - 8500 is really just a BEL 995/RX65 in a different housing. Overall performance of the X50 is nothing like the current Escort 8500, with more false alarms and lower Ka camera performance, compared to the Escort 8500.
The X50 shares 98% the same hardware and software of the BEL Vector 995/RX65.
This now puts the Valentine 1/CENZ in a league of its own.
Beware of performance claims for the new X50-8500, based on tests that were carried out in the past.
The X50 is not the same detector.!!
which is the recommended model and where is the best price?
any opinions pro or con please,
The Valentine is the only way to go, it is so dependable that when it goes I slow down everytime. it gets its share of false alarms but I can live with that.
The downside of any detector is that, if pulled over for anything, you have no chance of talking your way out of the ticket or getting it reduced. Sometimes its just better to be extra watchful at high speeds and look for the sudden brake lights of cars ahead.
Just to clarify the bogey counter info on the X50. Mine tracks 2 per band only. I may have mis-read the earlier posts but I thought they implied the X50 could track up to 8 of any band. I guess it was meant that 4 bands x 2 each = 8 bogey counts.
On the V1 you can't tell how many of each band if it detects more than 2 unless they are all the same band or unless the number of bogeys match the number of bands detected. Not that it really matters.
I travel in urban areas a lot with many alarms etc that can cause false alerts so if I see more bogeys than usual I know to be alert.
This works for both my V1 and X50. Actually, my friends say that the bogey counter is really a gimmick just like the gimmicky arrows on the V1 but I use the bogey counter quite a bit and still find myself wishing the X50 had the arrows.
The debate will certainly continue. I'm still on the fence about the 2 and I ride with both of them daily.
FWIW, if I had to sell one today, it would be the X50.

I tried the V1, it's true the arrows are great. I jut couldn't put up with all the false signals I was getting.
I purchase the 8500 X50 Blue. I can't tell any difference in distance of detection, but my false signals have been cut down to 20%, and when the detector goes off, I slow down I don't care if he's to my right or left or what ever. I don't think you can make a wrong choice by choosing either detector

That's why my V1 is hidden by the visor and the controls are in the ashtray.

As ugly as I am, I doubt very seriously if there would be any talking my way out of a paper bag so I figure just hand me the slip and I'll be on my way!!! LOL!!!
