Once in a speed trap in a small Oregon town, the other about 8 miles South of Mt. Hood in Oregon when my (then) 18 month old son was burning up with fever and I was rushing back from the store with Pedialite (sugar drink to replenish fluid loss)....was doing 90 in a 55. OSP tickets me, refuses to listen....go to court and get it lowered from 150 to 35 bucks.....
I am more worried about the points then the cost. I already got a lawyer and have a court date. Since 21 over is wreckless which i think is either 4 or 6 points thats a ton to get at once. So hopefully i can get it knocked down some since i have a pretty clean driving record.
Funny, when some guys break the law and get caught, all of a sudden it's all someone else's fault. Time to grow up and take responsibility for your own actions.
You guys sound like a broken record, thanks for the insight.
AGAIN IT WAS A EXPRESS WAY THAT ENDS IN A LOCAL HIGHWAY, it was 70 until about 300 feet where i was past, the closed ramp was a major factor why i was still doing 76, you never do 5 over on the express way right?
If i was doing 76 on a road that was 55 along i would agree with you guys i was speeding yes but i would say because i have a vette and i look young is a major factor in why i got the ticket with nothing off, like i said i was very polite and apolized to the officer.
Thanks for the rest of you bandwagon jumpers out there on the forum.

In all reality , if you slipped a C note under your insurance card you should be arrested for Bribery. Since I just purchased my new 04......the C note wouldnt really do me much good, nor would I be willing to toss 15 years of my life away. Also if you get pulled over on the Highway or by a radar cop...guess what...thats what he does for a living and your going to get a ticket. Good luck and in court and fight it to the end.
In my experience (which is significant both in tickets and time), warnings are usually given when there is not enough hard evidence to support a ticket. For example back in the old days, in PA the cop had to pace you for 1/4 mile to give you a ticket, usually you got a warning if you slowed down (after seeing or something) in less distance than that.

When you have some LE experience then you say this. However, you're incorrect. If you get a warning it's because of your attitude and the generousity of the officer.
Also, I doubt very much your car and age has anything to do with your ticket. I'm 25, have a C5 and a badge. Oh yeah, I too have received a summons in my car for speeding. Big deal, I WAS speeding. True, most of us have been in this type of situation but it sounds like you just need to suck it up.

I think I've gotten more warnings than tickets (haven't really counted) in my 35 years of driving, and at least once the officer told me specifically that he couldn't ticket me because he hadn't enough evidence. Maybe he was lying, I don't know, but I doubt it. I do know that some of those warnings were based on both the attitudes of myself and the LEO, but I still think that most of the time the warnings were based on lack of useable evidence.

Do other jurisdictions actually hand out formal written warnings??? Never saw one in NYC. Here they just yell at you and walk away kicking the dirt like a kid or got picked last in school sports. Those are the guys we have here in the Highway Division.
I was pulled over a while back for driving 70 in a night time 65mph zone. I thought it was a waste of time, but I was nice to the officer and he wrote me a warning for "speeding" and no front license plate. Here in Texas they actually give you a written warning, and I will be happy to accept that any day rather than a real citation.
Why is he a Dick, you broke the law and got caught. Why do you deserve a break? The officer did his job, I hope you win in court, but do not call the man a dick for giving you something you earned. Unless his name was Richard.
People just get pizzed at their own stupidity, and like to take it out on others. It's that whole "not taking responsibility for your own actions" thing.
Ok i did sound like a bit of a dick in my last post, i was very polite to the officer when he pulled me over i apolizgied and told him i was trying to get to the airport and did not see that the exit was closed tell the last minute, he said nothing came back 2 mins later with a ticket for the full speed.
Sometimes you just catch them on a bad day. He may have just been chewed out by his superior. You never know.
I have never had any tickets as of yet.
I think speeding tickets in general are a joke.
The purpose of a speed limit on highways is not to truly limits ones speed on the highway, but to get everyone going about the same speed to cut down on weaving in and out of traffic and what not, you dont want Granny doing 30 in the left, and you dont want Ricer doing 130 in the left either, when traffic is all at one pace even if its over the limit, there should never be a ticket given. I really think the idea has been skewed over the years, when states started to heavily rely on tickets as a means on state income they then started to have quota's and those bull5hit 5mph tickets, fact your are not hurting anything doing 5over or 10 or even 15 as long as its on when everyone else is going 5,10,or 15 under. Its not about being safe anymore its not about enforcing a law, its about getting money an easy way.
I would rather have higher tax, and less tickets.
thats my .02

Sprags, you were lucky. Cops aren't all bad. Just got a very difficult job to do. Be straight with the man and sometime they'll cut you slack. Save the Wave.>George

Ummm, duh! I think I can see a nice shiney pair of stainless steel bracelets in your future.
WOW! - What a range of responses!
Here's my own experiences:
I got a written warning from a PA state trooper on the PA Turnpike (didn't know written warnings existed. I really did try to be nice - it paid off!).
Also got one one late evening after a 16 hour work day (Again, state cop - I pleaded to him - he was willing to listen and was reasonable.)
Got busted in a speed trap by a local set-up - plea did no good. Appealed. Went to the hearing - it was a scam. It is the major source of income for the small-town guys.
The officers - ALWAYS treat 'em with respect - they put their lives on the line.
However, I think you got railroaded on this one - go to court - and show respect!!
Good luck!

The cops I've known during a 30yr LE career would lock you up, custodial arrest, for attempting a bribe. For most cops, this is a job and it's not personal. They have hundreds of incidents and everybody has a story. The only way of surviving is for them to maintain their objectivity. By law and oath, cops have no discretion as that is the purview of the Court (States Attorney, DA), and technically they are sticking their neck out when they cut you a break, because litigants have succeeded in holding cops libel when an offender kills someone further down the road. As far as admitting you were speeding when you're stopped, expect that to be used against you in his summary. Personally, I would politely claim that I didn't realize it, but those are judgement calls dependent upon the individual circumstance.
