Default Halltech Stinger intake installed!

Just installed my Halltech stinger intake and it was simple even for a novice like me. Jim's instructions were perfect and it took no time at all. It looks great and the car feels great. Now i'm wondering what to mod next! I read in a thread about an add-on to this intake that can be found on Halltech's site. I'll have to check it out. Anyone know about it let me know. Thanks guys!

Congrats! I went to install my Stinger R this past Sunday, but they mistakenly sent the wrong air filter. New one is on the way...can't wait to get this on! Did you notice any improvement?

Well if you don't mind the noise (or if you really LOVE it) pust some stingers on the back end now (Borla's that is). Not as inexpensive as the Halltech type, but worth the bucks in my opinion and makes the Vette sound like a muscle car.

Congrats on a successful mod. Consider an aftermarket exhaust if you don't already have one. Will make the car sound much better.

My cold air mod for Stinger-Rs and Blackwings is in Halltech's site as a PDF file. The mod takes approx. 2.5 hours if you take your time and requires an air intake scoop (unbreakable wall pocket from Staples, $8), a 1ft x 1ft sheet of stainless steel wire mesh (McMaster-Carr, $13), some RTV silicone (McMaster or any auto supply store, $4) and some stainless steel hardware ($5).
All part numbers are in the procedure and the result is MUCH cooler intake air entering the throttlebody, which in turn prevents the engine computer from retarding the timing (reducing power) when the engine temps get up above 110 degrees.

Let me know if you have any further questions after reading the procedure and congratulations for getting the best intake bang for the buck!

Got the air coming in, now you have to get it out!

3 letters for that

I did post a lengthy reply, complete with my thoughts about each manufacturer's intake, but for some strange reason, I couldn't post it. I then exited and entered the Forum and posted a shortened version. Ihope to be able to comment further later on this evening.

Thanks Dave68,

You input is highly important in my decision. Please advise on this later when you get a chance.

Details I am interested in:
* sound (looking for the sucking sound during revs)
* hp increas cold vs. non
* price , where to buy
* mod you mentioned ( how much of a difference ) installation time...

Thanks

Ordered my Halltech Stinger intake Monday afternoon and it arrived today. I already have it installed (easy install) and I'm fixing to take her for a ride.

I sorta doubt it, but I can't say for sure. The Borlas seem to overshadow anything I heard from the Halltech when I had it on without them (and I never heard all that much to be honest).

I installed the Stinger a few weeks ago and like the smooth throttle response and WOT rush. No problems with fit or codes. Be careful tightening the hose clamp on the throttle body end of the Stinger - it doesn't need to be as tight as you can make it, just enough to make the air seal and not wiggle loose. I also recommend you install a hood seal since there's not much protection from water coming off the hood.

With my stock exhaust I could hear more from the front of the car and I got NO air cleaner rush like we did with the old 4-barrel air cleaners, if that's what you're thinking. Now that I've got my Corsa Indy Pace X-pipe system, can't hear anything but sweet motor sounds, even if it was whistling!

I also installed Dave's cold air mod. It was real easy - lots of clear pictures and clear instructions. The radiator shroud cuts easy - the box knife really is enough. I ordered the stainless screen from McMaster-Carr - figured it was easier and cheaper than hunting around town for one. The only confusion in the instructions was in step 4.8 - there are 7 shroud screws at the bumper level - 5 on the front lip and 2 on the inside panels.

Great fun, eh???

Yes it's fun--now it's time to think about the next mod.
