please tell me what the best intake out there. would changing intake affect my warranty? what's the downfall of changing it into aftermarket intake? does Vararam intake system really add 40+ hp?

thank you for your help.

Youre gonna get a lot of different answers here...some popular ones are

Halltech Stinger
Blackwing
Vararam
Vortex

The Vararam appears to add the most HP,,but I don't think you can get 40hp just from an intake alone,,you would have to add more mods.

And, no, chaning the intake won't void your warranty. Do a search here on the forum, there are a lot of threads on this.

Good luck

don't want to steal the thread, but doesn't CA restrict your selection of air intakes to pass smog?

i didn't feel like changing my air intake, even if it meant spending 15 minutes every two years, so i ordered a z06 airbox cover.

I have been running the Blackwing for three years and never had a problem with warranty issues. However, every dealer seems to be different and one may say yes, others no. Check with your dealer and see what they say about relatively minor mods like a new intake.

Seeing that you live in CA, you have a few choices:

A) Get a K&N FIPK intake system (50-states emission legal) for $340 (comes with filter, airbridge, and smooth TB coupler and is a semi-cold air system) ...good for 10-15 RWHP

B) Get an easily-removable intake system, like the Halltech Stinger-R, which comes with massive filter, airbridge, and smooth TB coupler for $199.00 (until tomorrow, then $249.00) and remove it every two years when it comes time to have your car smogged. Good for 12-15 RWHP

C) Get the Blackwing filter which is easily removable, but includes only the air filter for $200-$250. Good for 10-12 RWHP

D) Get a Vararam (pain in the neck to remove and replace) for $350 Good for 12-15 RWHP

E) Get a Vortex Rammer (a bit less of a pain, but a pain nonetheless). Good for 8-13 RWHP (est)

What's the best bang for the buck? See my sig!

Dave68 knows his stuff. For sure

I've got the K&N FIPK system, plus MFS, TB and Lingenfelter manifold.

I've got the Vortex. As far as CA Smog, there are a few "Corvette Friendly" places out there. As long as the car passes the numbers it is ok. They know that you will make it stock, pass the test, then switch it back.

Blackwing here. I got mine two years ago. Today, I would get the Halltech Stinger since Donaldson is going belly-up.

I have the K&N FIPK system too and love it. You can't go wrong with their reputation and system. Me personally... I've never heard of a "Blackwing" until I bought my Corvette but to each is own. You do have to cut your fan shroud for the K&N but no biggie. Good luck!
