I'm getting sick of the long throw on the stock shifter... I'd like to replace
it with a B&M ripper only if I can do the install myself... so how hard is
it to install these things? Btw, I've read the shifter install how-to in the tech
section, but I wanted to get advice from folks who've actually done the install.

thanks...
The hardest part is getting the pin out. After that if you have any wrenching experience you shouldn't have any trouble. Just take your time removing the plastic parts of the console and dash. Make sure you have the tools such as metric sockets and such.
I did it on my first C5. I thought the pin would never come out, then it just popped out. On subsequent trade ins though it was easier to have the dealer do it when the new car came off the truck. Then again, I'm just lazy.
On the car I have now they didn't charge me for the labor.
Check this out. This is an instructional wrttien by trhe Corvetteforums own Patches.
I used his step by step instructional and it was actually fun besides being very easy.
I had no problem at all removing the stock shift **** either which I continually hear horror stories about.
Easy with the correct tools. The pin holding the shift **** is the hardest part. Follow the directions (link) given and you shouldn't have any problems. I went with Hurst and it took me about an hour and 10 minutes start to finish.

Good luck .......
Cool, I replaced my shift **** about a year ago so no devil pin to worry
about. Looks like I'm all set then...
