If you just bought a 98, and did not know to ask about clb, and the guy you bought it from does not know, is there a way to find out if there is CLB installed or not? Other, than waiting for this to happen to you....
When you remove the key from the ignition you hear a "ZZZZT" sound. After the install of the CLBypass all you hear is a faint "click".

I did not wait to find out. I ordered a CLB and forgot about this problem.

So I bought the LMC5 kit on Amazon for my 2004 and the package stated not needed for a 2004 US model car so I sent it back.

in my “late to the party” opinion since I have an 04 and saw the same thing. I’d not install it unless you get a column lock message even ONE time. And it goes away or you feel it lock. That happened 5 years ago for me and it was my “warning”.

in my opinion the Gear wears out and you can have column lock gear serviced at the dealer (always seems to cost $1000 every time I take it there) , or disable to column lock with the LMC5 for $45.

same with the ignition key switch and the pull key wait 10
seconds. And brown wire mod. These parts wear out.

this is after 6 months 200 hours of analysis I spent this year. Learned a lot. More than I wanted to. Glad I just retired from corporate
lol. Cheers happy holidays !

So this just recently happened on my 01 Vert Manual, have been reading a lot but not looking forward to the investigation of the problem. Had the car 5 years, has 38,000 miles and now just doing this after battery died and I had to replace it. Arrghhhhh!!!
