Default Refusing CLB Recall during Warrany Work?

Sorry for yet another Column Lock (sort of) thread

Anyway, I noticed spots on my garage floor yesterday below the rear
end of the car. So I've got the classic "rear differentil seal leak".

I called the dealer this morning and set up an appointment for Monday morning. But, so that there are no surprises I asked if he is aware of the "Column Lock Recall", and he says yes, and they will do that as well.
So I politely asked if they would be able to ignore, and not perform, the recall.

I have a CLB installed and do not want to remove it, for them to perform this useless recall, only to have to reinstall it afterwards.

So my questions are:

1. Has anyone successfully gotten the dealer to "not perform" the recall work? Is there a waiver that I can sign? He said that he would call GM, but thought that they would insist it be done since it is a safety recall.

2. Has anyone been charged, or have the dealer attempt to charge them, for removing the CLB. I think I read a post where someone stated that the dealer tried to charge them for removing it.

After explaining to the Service Manage, in pretty good detail, how the column lock works and what the recall does/doesn't do (from what I've read here) he realized that I knew what I was talking about, and softened a bit. But I'm still not certain that they will "just leave it alone" as I asked (and would prefer).

Sorry again for the long "CLB" thread, but I'd be grateful for your experiences/thoughts.

Like you, I don't want them touching my car. I have the CLB, it has worked great since I installed it, and I would prefer to let sleeping dogs lie.

I don't have the exact threads, but I specifically remember both that addressed this issue. First, there is at least one member who successfully got the dealership to simply not do the recall. However, I think it was just a decision that the dealership chose to make and it probably did not follow GM rules/guidelines if they exist. Second, there have been more than one person who posted that the dealership said that it would charge them to remove the CLB to perform the recall. Again, I would assume that this is also at the dealers discretion, but I doubt many would be willing to do the work for free. Not too much information, but I hope it helped some.

You might be referring to me. I just had the differential leak fixed (Tuesday) and had spoken with the service head at the dealership asking that they NOT perform the "fix" since I have LS1 Edit tuning. I also left a big note atached to the dash, just in case. I did have to sign the work order upon picking up my car that I was offered and refused the "fix." (LOL...I keep calling it the "fix," as if I were a heroin addict).

Thanks, this is good information. So I guess it will depend on how good of a sales job I can do on the Service Advisor (or Manager)

In hind sight, perhaps I should not have mentioned the CLB and used an LS1 Edit Tune as the reason (which I don't have - yet). Maybe they get heart burn when the hear about the CLB.

I know that I have read of at least one member that posted that he had the recall done without having an LS1 Edit Tune affected. Maybe the reprogram doesn't overwrite the "area of memory" controlling "timing" or "a/f ratios", etc. Just a thought.

I took my Vette in to the Dealer last week to get the Lumbar Motor Assembly replaced in the driver's seat. As I was walking away I noticed on the Estimate sheet that it said to do the Column Lock Campaign. I rushed back to the service writer and told I wanted him to hold off on that. He gave me the usual load of crap saying the wheel could lock up while driving, etc, etc. I have a Predator and I need to figure out how to proceed in regards to that before I have them mess with the PCM. They did not perform the CL Recall.

The bottom line is that it it is your car, not theirs, so you can dictate the work to be done, even on a Safety Recall like this one.
