What does a fuel cleaner have to do with fixing a guage?hmmm..I wonder if I put break cleaner on the disks, would my parking brake be properly adjusted? LMAO!

it seems as if certain refiners across the states add a sulphur to the gas and it affects corvettes, usually a gage falling to zero under 1/2 tank. always try to use the best gas available, and once in a while get a bottle of techron from walmart / pepboys and put it in the tank.

Charlene: The fuel gauge sensors in the tanks themselves are affected by contaminates in gasoline. As the contaminates build up on the sensors they malfunction.

Techron is a detergent/cleanser that removes the contaminates and allows the sensors to work properly. Cheaper, off brand gasoline can have more contamination than name brands.

Corvettes and/or GM cars are not the only ones affected by this.

Hope this helps.

If Amoco fuels have Techron added to it, does that mean the same for BP since Amoco/BP have merged. I usually use BP fuels but I have a bottle of fuel injector cleaner sitting at home ready to be run in my next tank.

Chevron gas when I can get it. No problems yet. Sid.

Yes, there are additives available that "include" the stuff, but there are also 2 different size bottles of the "real thing" available - a 12 oz. bottle and a 20 oz. bottle.
I've wondered the same thing - which "fix" is the one that people have used that works!
Thanks!
Original question still not answered. What is the fix that works.
Fuel system cleaner with Techron Added, or Techron Concentrate, which may be all Techron?

Any form. Techron in the fuel like Chevron, Amoco/Bp (BP uses Amoco fuel in the Midwest and possibly other places) Techron added to other fuel or Techron on top of Techron fuel. I think I have read of people having good results with any of these.

Did I mention Techron?

Again, I use practically 99% exclusively Amoco gas & have continual sending unit problems, even AFTER the new design & GM update.... 2 yrs ago

i would change brands of gas, now.
dont bother adding any tecron till you get good gas, then use it. the items in question are so gunked-up by now that even adding cleaner to "bad" gas wont do much for you.
try it, but it will take a few tank fulls to clear up.
imho

I have never used Chevron, or Techron additive, to my knowledge. Only Mobil, Arco, and once in a great while, Union 76. Never had a fuel guage problem. Maybe these non-Chevron/Techron fuels don't have any, or a very minut amount of sulfur in them. If sulfur is the problem.

I've had 4 C5s and always use the cheapest gas (93 octane) that I can find, usually 7-Eleven (Citgo) and have never had a gauge problem. What is the difference here? My Vettes are daily drivers at least 20 miles a day, are all the problem cars garage queens? Is the gas in TX better than other places in the US? Is it a seasonal issue, worse with summer blend than winter, say? Trying to find a common tread here...

Chevron gas and a bottle of "Techron" with every oil change here. Don't get the Fuel Injection Cleaner or similar, you want the bottle labeled "Techron". In the Corvettes, use the bigger bottle. Buy it at Walmart, K-mart etc, much cheaper than the gas station. My wifes Yukon takes two bottles, but it is worth it. Can't swear it will fix the fuel gage issue, but works damn good on the rest of the system.

i have a early 03 [july 02] which had a problem after only 10000 miles. the dealer reprogramed to get rid of the problem. i use whatever gas is available-87,89,91,and 93 octane from all over the country-no problems in the last 35,000 miles. your car may have the later program, and not all cars have this problem.
