I recently purchased a 2000 coupe and was astonished to experience getting 32 MPG on a straight highway trip from Ohio to D.C. and back (averaging about 75 MPH). Around town I'm getting about 19 MPG. How does that compare with everyone else? One more thing while on the subject of gas mileage, how many of you use premium fuel?
Definitely sounds like you've got the 2.73 rear differential. I was getting about 31 mpg with mine then upgraded to a 3.42 for a better hole shot. MPG went down to 23.5.
I've got a 2002 vert/AOD with about 7,300 miles on the clock. I do mostly suburban cruising and am averaging 25 mpg. On a couple of long trips I've seen 28 mpg. I use premium gas.
If you're running an automatic tranny, then you've got the cruising 2.73 gear ratio in the diff. If a M6, then you know what you've got!
And, yes, I run premium. You can run lower octanes, the PCM will reduce the ignition timing whenever it detects detonation, but then the power (and mileage) goes down. And, with the difference in prices running 4-6% difference between grades, you'll quickly eat up any savings in poorer mileage.
I was averaging about 28.6 mpg, but on my last trip this past weekend, it was down to about 24 mpg. What's up with that?? I drove it as I always do, so there was not a lot of extra spirited driving. Maybe it's about time to change my oil?? It's down to about 40% oil life remaining. I don't know if that would cause a drop in fuel mileage or not.
Okay, forgive this next question (I'm probably going to show my ignorance). I have the 6 speed...is their a standard differential with the MN6? How would I know what I have?

Boy, I got to lighten up on the go pedal! My best highway cruising with an 03 MN6 is 25mpg, which I'm real pleased with considering a 76-78 mph average speed. Around town I'm down to a measly 14 mpg, but there are so many mountain roads to play on, it's hard not to be aggressive...
