Default VARARAM or Halltech?

I hear Halltech is simple to put on, and best bang for the buck....will you really get that much more HP from a VARARAM?

Well, at a recent dyno day, the three big players went up against each other. Here're the results:

Year/Model/Mods/RWHP/RWTQ

2000/Vert/Vararam_Corsa Pace/326.3/329.5
2002/Coupe/Blackwing_Borla Stingers/328.1/340.5
2001/Coupe/Halltech Stinger-R_Borla Stingers/328.6/352.2
2002/Z06/Bone Stock/361.7/347.2

Default Air Intake mods

November 2004 issue Corvette fever does an intake comparison of Volant and Blackwing intakes but it's not complete yet( ran out of Dyno time) Only have part 1, it will be continued in further issue. Surprisingly some intakes actually lower the HP because the computer enrichens the air/fuel ratio and leaner mixtures = more power... richer mixtures = less power.
just my $.02

It would be very informative to have the before HP/TQ numbers.

Here yah go:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=825702

Although my "before" numbers are listed in this post, the dyno graph is red-xed because of problems with CF's home pages (where the images are stored) - sorry about that.

You can not go wrong with the Halltech Stinger system. Proven HP gain numbers, simple to install and the price is right. Ask around. Good luck.

The Vararam supposedly benefits from front end air pressure (as the car is moving), was your dyno set-up simulating forward motion (with fans, et al) to provide the increased air pressure advantage?

The hoods were placed in the upwards position to prevent the intake air from heating up too much and a couple of fans were placed in front of each car. However, giant, $8000 fans these were not!

I believe that both the Vararam-equipped C5 and my car (with CAI mod in place) could have taken advantage of more air. The Blackwing-equipped car would probably have not gained anything more than what was produced with that setup.

The Stinger is best bang for the buck. I have it and love it. Easy to install..watch the hood clearence a little...but it's goood to go.

Vararam is very good too, but most people I have talked to said they did not notice a SOTP difference unless they were going for top-end speed..going 70mph, punch it and you feel the difference. Varam is also very difficult to install..my buddy did one at his shop with lift and all tools etc..and still a PITA

Varam needs to change the 40hp gains part of their ads...the day an intake alone gives you 40hp, I think I'll get rid of my vette and by a mini and mod it instead

I am definitely looking at the HALLTECH instead of the VARARAM....I want to install it myself and do it easily and not require a lift...

I've always been partial with the Vararam. Maybe it's because that is the first mod I ever did.
