The Verdict.
I finally got to speak to someone from GM.
I was told from the dealership that the previous owner brought the vehicle in (8/01) and had the problem fixed. Obviously it wasn't fixed properly.
I explained to GM that I purchased the vehicle 12/03 and that the column locked up on me yesterday.
Since the recall was completed, they will not fix it again under warranty. GM told me that there's probably something else wrong and to bring it to the dealership to get it fixed.
I advised her that I will have someone else to fix it.

I've got you two more numbers from my recall notice you can call to see if they will do the right thing and fix it right this time at no charge to you. 1 800.630.2438 Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center 1 888.327.4236 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
[QUOTE=lt1george]Give GM (Chevrolet) a call at 800 222 1020. Explain your problem, report dealer.
I agree with this. I had a problem with my '97 Camaro transmission one month after the warranty expired. The GM people at that number can apparently waive any "rules", and they had my car repaired at the dealership at no cost to me. They want happy GM drivers.
C-5 TECH,
I'm confused!
Reading the NHTSA bulletin it doesn't mention the harness.
Reading my recall notice it doesn't mention the harness.
Are we to assume GM installs the harness even though it's not listed?
I would think the harness is as important if not more then the plate.
Thanks
The relay harness is included in the kit with the "dummy" lockplate. Both are installed to diasble the column lock on the A4

The 1st recall was released on 9/7/01 If the vehicle was repaired on 8/01 it did not get the recall fix
I thought this damn problem was solved in 2001 models now I find that my 03 Z06 has a column recall and that's bullsh**
The recall for the M6 released in 2001 involved replacing the column lock and installing a harness kit to the BCM.This procedure was to cure the column lock issue on the 1997-2000 M6's.As we all know, this recall procedure didnt cure the problem.GM has since given up on a fix for the M6,and now has recalled all the M6's to simply reprogram the PCM to shut down fuel should a column lock fault occur. In other words,M6 owners are taking the time out of their day to have a recall performend that simply covers GM's butt and doesnt fix the problem
PS I actually spoke to a shop near me and they advised me that they can fix it for around $100.
That sounds like a pretty good deal!
If you bought the GM kit to install yourself it would cost around $72-$84. And I don't even want to think what the cost would be if you took it to the dealer!
Good Luck and let us know how it comes out.
sound like they did the wrong recall procedure if column locks they didn't do it right .MN6 column will lock after recall not the A4. Find out what dealership did the procedure and go their and get them to do it right. Talk to the service manager and make them read the recall its not you fault they did the wrong procedure.
