Jesse, I don't think he was bashing cops in general, and I fully understand your point, and we all know the stop was justified and it was a legit infraction of the law. I read his post more as a "what do I do now?" question.

I also know why stops like occur for such petty infractions. It gives the LEO's the legitimate opportunity to "check someone out" and perhaps uncover more serious wrongdoings. We all know how many "bg busts" happen this way.

The reality is, most cops around here do have better things to worry about than staring at a vehicle to see "what can I find illegal about it". When the one cop is "bored" enough to do that, no, it doesn't seem fair, as technically correct as it may be. That is in no way a dig or stereotype or negative opinion of all LEO's, please don't take it as such.

To sum it up best...I do appreciate the work the troopers and LEO's do in keeping our roads safe and organized.
I also did make sure to thank the trooper who stopped me for no front plate in keeping the roads so safe and protecting others from deviants like myself. Rude comment indeed, but that is what I experienced him doing, and if my lack of front plate was more important to him than the people whizzing by at 85mph, then yeah, I do look at the big picture and wonder what the priorities really are....safe roads, or potential "big bust"?

I see the title as questioning the cops motive behind the stop Petty: yes Legal: yes The thread title could have read: " I received a ticket, help.: or "Ticket, opinion(s) needed."
"Cops!!!! sounds like disgust with the officer...IMHO

True, as an example to your point; Timothy McVeigh was stopped for having no license plate displayed

No offense taken...this skin is thicker than that

Thank you for your support of LE, and when people aren't speeding by at 85mph, the trooper/officer may be dedicated to doing his job rather then just sitting around. Always to sides two every story

Thanks for your reply

So my point is: is you're going to play, you may have to pay. So, his option is to put on the plate and take the petty stop out of the mix, or face the ramifications for not abiding by the law...

Remember also, that Troopers spend the majority of time on the highways and they are tasked with traffic enforcement only in many states...
that trooper is a ball buster, made because he don't has one. don't be afraid stand up for yourself. if a cop gives me a hard time i call 911 on the spot and tell the station to record what happening they can't hang-up by law.

Maybe not, but you can be fined for abusing 911 services in most areas.

[cor99vette]Having spent 27 years in law enforcement, I have heard everything, and have been more then fair with all my contacts, but, this complaint is frivolous and worthy of no sympathy

Gosh, LOL...I really don't think he was asking for your sympathy...just venting with his vette friends and you got your 27 year panties in a bunch...understandable...think you just need to chill a little, drink a beer and have a little fun with the boys...remember you're retired now, right?....IMHO

What I do is I have my front plate in one of those work order clear folders. I got 3 at staples for about 5 bucks. I keep it behind the passenger seat and if I get pulled over I reach back and throw it on my dash. In New York from what I have been told we just have to have it displayed in the front. First time this doesn't work I'll post why it didn't but until them I'll keep it in the car

My panties are fine...no bunch here thanks for checking

No chill needed I'm sitting with my feet up, watching the Cards game, wife sitting next to me and my dog sleeping...thanks again

I don't drink beer, and I don't need it to chill if I did. Just had a steak dinner with salad, green beans and a bowl of ice cream. Life is good

Yeah, retired full time, don't need to hang with the boys, but thanks for the recommendation.

And why "vent," when you get a warning...

Cor99Vette - thanks for your 27 years of service.

Some will never understand the dynamics of a simple traffic stop or what can evolve from one. I think they'd feel differently if they'd ever been on the other side of the door

- I'm fairly new forum member too and this reply probably not neccesary either but had to chime in on this one for us.

LoL I would laugh my *** off if someone did that. You would be wasting minutes on your cell phone man. The trooper was well within his rights and doing nothing wrong, hell he could have given him an equipment violation ticket and sent him to court.

Oh and I dont know where you get your information from (backyard lawyer?) but the station can hangup...911 is for emergency calls not your personal recording studio.

Put the plate on and thank your lucky stars the Chevrolet provided a GREAT place for it.

Unlike the C6 that will NEVER be in my garage for that ONE reason only!

I've been an LEO for 13 years. I don't know of any Department that tracks citations or warnings. At best, most of it is just word of mouth between officers. The DOT keeps track of citations. Good luck.

NJ we have to put it on. At first I left it off, but then thought why should I give any LEO the option to pull me over.

I got use to it, but I have a MY and NJ plate is yellow so it doesn't look that bad...
