I have many state trooper and county mounty friends (a few who own vettes), and I can tell you that they are first rate people. I might suggest you try the "ignorance is bliss" or the "dumber than a stump" routine (also known as the female blonde syndrome) if you were to be driving a Yugo or something like that, but in a vette? Probably wouldn't work.
No front plates in NC. Most LEO are really decent folks, however it does burn me when I get passed all the time by those guys far exceeding the speed limit on the way home or on the way to meeting their buddy at the coffee shop. I got passed the other day by a trooper doing at least 80 and when I got around the next curve, there he was geting mail out of his mail box in front of his house. About two weeks ago, I got passed by a trooper far exceeding the speed limit in a Camero and when I pulled in to the next Mac's for a burger, there he was going inside with another trooper. If it is unsafe for me to drive 80mph is it not unsafe for them? I know, some say they have special training, but so do some of us. Just a personal hot butttom for me.
I think that some place in NC you can't let your rooster crow before 5 am.It's a dumb law that allows "COPS" to get nosy. there not satisfied with there own game show("COPS")
Not sure about Wisconsin but in Illinois we have no system that logs and tracks "warnings". Chances are the next guy who gets you will have no clue you have already been warned.
thats not true, all warning tickets written by the illinois state police are kept in T.I.P.S. (traffic infomation planing system) they are given to the trooper everytime a plate or subject is run through communications
, also the cook county sheriff's police gets that info if requested, since they share the same communication center.
I guess the real issue then is how can we change our laws to get rid of such petty and essentially inconsequential issues like roosters crowing and front license plates? I'm still young so I actually believe my vote counts for something, but where do we direct it? Never heard anyone campaign locally to increase freeway speed limits or get rid of the front license plate requirements (he/she'd be my champion). Be interesting to see if some states had front license plate requirements and then had that repealed to see what it takes.
I am not going to put a front license plate on a car with as gorgeous a front end as a C5, even if it means paying a fine. But I'm going to use the velcro idea (Office Depot has this "extreme" velcro which is stronger than any of the standard industrial velcros I've seen btw).
What I do is I have my front plate in one of those work order clear folders. I got 3 at staples for about 5 bucks. I keep it behind the passenger seat and if I get pulled over I reach back and throw it on my dash. In New York from what I have been told we just have to have it displayed in the front. First time this doesn't work I'll post why it didn't but until them I'll keep it in the car
Sorry, Thats no good. It has to be properly displyed in NY.

I just run my plate all the time to keep from having these types of encounters. You can put the plate back on to get the ticket dismissed and then take it back off. But, you may get stopped again. Too bad so many states have two plate requirements.

Really? I heard a rumor about that with the troopers awhile ago but never really got a straight answer from one. I would imagine it would have to be a written warning then not verbal?
I just called a county buddy and asked him and he claims they cant track warnings.....
In any case Chicago doesnt to the best of my knowledge and I bet 99% of the municipalities dont. Nobody wants to pay for the software or set up the database.

I would guess start a petition although I have no clue how many signatures it would take, then talk to your local county rep in the capitol of TX and go from there. I think they have to get the ball rolling and get a bill started on the issue.
I respectfully have to voice my opposition to your comments:
He gives you a warning, and you title the thread "Cops!!!" in an negative tone
I'd also like to know how/why you classify him as "bored." I assume you say this since he took the time to stop you for a violation that you consider petty in nature, but is 100% legal in his enforcement.
If you have knowingly been violating the law by driving without a front license for 5 months, then you should be grateful they you haven't been stopped and cited every time you are pushing your luck.
And then you say you got the "old," wheres your front license plate what is he suppose to say: "who you picking in the playoffs, or wheres the fire when you weren't speeding."
Having spent 27 years in law enforcement, I have heard everything, and have been more then fair with all my contacts, but, this complaint is frivolous and worthy of no sympathy.
Put the plate on, or be prepared to be stopped for a violation of the law by an officer who decides to enforce the law (no matter how petty you may think it is), whether he's bored or not.
What's next: I was speeding and this cop had the audacity to stop me...yes me????
and welcome to the Forum...
The cop's not wrong. He's doing his job. You know the law and you know you were violating it when you took your tag off. Show some semblence of responsibility here.
You have three choices:
1) Put the tag back on and leave it on.
2) Take it off and pay the fine next time.
3) Move to a state that doesn't require a front tag.

Some states have had the front lic. plates repealed...Ohio I think is one of them (?). Front plates cost money, and serve no real purpose other than giving laser-equipped cops a place to aim for.
I don't know about Tx...but this bill (to become a 1-plate state) does come up quite often in Wi. I think it could and would pass if submitted alone, but whoever makes these stupid bills always seems to tack on additional more radical changes which will never pass, and lumps it all together on the same bill as the front plate. Couple that with the usual strong opposition from the state patrol, and it gets voted down every time.

yes, thats what i said ISP written warnings are kept in T.I.P.S. for ONE YEAR. and no county does not enter warnings, but can access the state police T.I.P.S. files if need be. chicago dont have warning tickets. for every one in illinois check out this link that was up a while ago, was told its going up again in the fall session. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=822422
I would bet you that there are 100's of you here that would be screaming bloody murder if your Vette (minus the front plate) was stolen and the Cops didn't stop it. We'd hear "why didn't those lazy doughnut eating cops stop the crook?" We'd hear "that lousy son of a b drove by five of them, why didn't they stop him and run a check?"
It boils down to if any of us in LE really wanted to be loved we'd have been firemen instead!
