I just finished my first driving school. OMG, it was amazing. It was held at Phoenix Internation Raceway. I had no idea my Z was a race car direct from the factory. It was everything I wanted and more. I went for a ride in an instructors Z (100% stock) and he drove his even harder/faster than I could ever think of driving mine. I look forward to the next school here in January!
Thanks to all who replied to my earlier post with questions about tire pressure. Dropping the pressure a few pounds really helped.

This was a Drivers School where you drove YOUR car. It was actually organized by the local BMW club. So, there were a lot of M3 there, as well as many other BMWs, a few Minis, 3 Z06s and 1 GT3.

Hook another one.
Richard now you know what a corvette can do. Mods mean nothing if you can not drive your car like the engineers disgined the corvette to be driven. IMHO unless you race your corvette, you will never fully experience what the car can do.
There is a lot of info on other HPDE over in the Autocross and Roadracing forum.
Now if you really want to get hooked, get your spouse to get out the old checkbook and send you across the parking lot to Bondurants and hone up everything you did at PIR. Lets see, tires, pads, ka *****, ka *****...

Great advice, just doing some solo II, SCCA parking lot racing was a great experience. I would love to do that Zo6 Racing school in Arizona. Hopefully I get to do the Panoz school here in Ga. some day.

Another one hooked, as said above. I did my first class up at Road America in August - what a rush! One of the world's best cars on one of the world's best tracks. Can't wait to get back. The track is also where I found out that, bone stock (or with only slight mods), the ZO6 is all the car I need. Just as any SCCA T1 racer.

then a new seat, harness bar and harness, ka *****, ka *****, ... followed by a second set of wheels and tires for dedicated track use, ka *****, ka *****, and if you're not careful a roll cage will sneak its way into your car, ka *****, ka *****...

Well said... I attended a driving school this weekend at the BMW factory performance center in SC. My son has an M3 and is a member of the CCA BMW group.
We had lots of track time on a road course driving the Z4. This car has 225 HP and handles great. I kept thinking what my Z06 would do on this track with twice the power and the same weight...
The Z06 is more than enough car in stock form for just about any type of driving... Keeping the cars balane of braking, handling and performance is more important than just HP.
My son and I placed first and second place... He beat me by 1/100 of a second! It was a great day.. had lots of fun and learned alot about racing.
Oh yea, had my first experience at BeaveRun two weekends ago, and still can't stop daydreaming about it....
If all goes well, and I get squeezed in, I will be at Mid-Ohio in two weeks for another DE event. Incredible. My car at the same track as the C5R boys were kicking butt a few weeks ago!
gotta get new pads before then, and my F1 SC's will be shot after that......hey who was making that cash register sound?

There is a school here in GA???? Tell me more.........
I have always said that the best mod one can make is upgrading the nut behind the wheel.
Just wait until your 2nd or third time out (I am sure you will go back) when you know the track and can start concentrating on individual points in the track for braking, turn ins, and track outs. When you start to feel yourself get faster it becomes a whole different world of enjoyment!! But beware... as your car feels perfect now, you will soon want tires, seats, harnesses, brake ducts, brake pads...
How much do you guys pay for the driving school? I looked at Bondurant and its really expensive that i don't think i'm willing to spend right now.
Bondurant is a very good school and you use THIER CARS. Most High Performance Drivings Schools you use your own car. These schools run $250 to $500+ depending on the track, your time on the track and the time of the year and the day of the week.

I paid $350 for a one-day Track Time school at Road America, using my own Z06. A two-day school is double that (and more than double the fun, I'm sure; I'm going for that the next time.) Everything from a Buick GN to an ex-Nissan GTP racer on the track. It was a wild time.
Anybody know any other DEs going on in the Chicagoland area, like at Blackhawk or Gingerman?

What track day did you do? Was it a school or a DE?
Sorry. I'm not aware of anymore track days this season unless you want to do a test and tune at Gingerman. Speedseekers is having their DE this weekend at Road America (sold out) and from what I understand, it's the last event of the year.

X
It was a school - four track sessions, about 20 min. each, with a 1/2 hour of classroom time inbetween. Instructors ride along with everybody but the A group (no room for an instructor in that Nissan GTP!). Great value.
