What is a column lock bypass?
I haven't gotten into a C5 yet, but I'm trying. I keep seeing threads talking about recalls for a column lock condition and a fix for it called a CLB ,(column lock bypass).
What is a column lock bypass? In other words, is it an electrical and/or a mechanical device? How is one installed? Where can I get one? What kind of a price range should I be looking for? Any pics might be helpful.
While I'm asking, but on a different subject, how is a CAGS skip shift bypass device installed? This may not be applicable, but I thought I'd ask.
I'm sorry, but I just don't know what we're talkin' about here.
Thanks, in advance, for any feedback.
Later.

The above links will help you out. If you end up getting a manual equipped car, these two items are must have's.

Blue, you're not as lost as you make yourself out to be. A lot of people wouldn't even know to call them CLB or CAGS.
I believe most vendors have these items. Search the Eckler's or MidAmerica catalogs.
My CLB was installed by the dealer by my car's previous owner so I can't help with that. And my car is an automatic.

Or you can run the vin# like I did at the dealership and check for open recalls and have it done correctly and free.
Hmmmmm, don't those two words sound sweet together, correctly and free???? (Now if we could only get a sponsor to learn that ...lol)

If you plan on getting a 6-speed don't even waste your time on the recall.....get the CLB.

To bad "correctly" doesnt apply to the 6 speeds as far as the recall.

Unfortunately, the recall on 6-speed cars only makes the problem worse!

That sucks. I didn't even think about that, mine is an automatic. Sorry to hear it doesn't work on a stick.

I am waiting on my bypass right now and can't wait to put it in. And the car is not going in for the recall. CAGS eliminator was the first mod I did to the car.

I am confused (not unusual!).
Do I need a CLB for a 2000 with an automatic tranny?
