Air compressor is the best way That and a soft ragworks wonders.

I have never done this until the last show....
...I used Armorall Tire Foam...and only avoided the belts directly...
(knock sensors would be difficult to get wet under the intake manifold)

I didnt use water...however, this left a considerable amount of greasy spots on the metal...
The final result was spectacular but I used every imaginable means to clean the greasy parts...

Oh and I vacuum
