Actually, I should have titled this "curb scrape". My airdam (airDAMN!) scrapes on the curb at the foot of my driveway unless I do a sideways move and drive on the grass a bit. My ZO6 is not lowered and I hope to get some suggestions on concrete aprons from some of you who have had the same issue. Did you do it yourself with Quickrete? Did you have it done? Thanks!
Unfortunatly i am home today while a contractor rips up and regrade my driveway. I knew it was going to have to get done in order for me to get mine in the garage. The driveway had to get redone anyway, the Vette just hurried it along.
Mine does that too, but it's very minor. I just come to a complete stop at the entrance to the driveway and edge forward. I can't to sideways at all.
The other day, I made the mistake of straddling a manhole cover in the middle of one of our neighborhood streets. It sticks up far enough to scrape. I don't really think think that city streets should have slopes or things sticking up that a production car can't drive over. And that goes for speed humps too.
I have to manuever around my winter car at the end of the drive. I scrape everytime. Its scraped up a little but it isn't that bad. You only notice if you get down and look at it. If it gets banged up too bad I'll replace it. If I get the money I'll re-do my driveway, but until then, I'll live with it. How about we get a lift kit and raise our vette's up 2 inches? Just kidding of course.
A little scraping rhyme for ya....Good thing it's a very cheap part to replace and despite scraping everywhere it still looks pretty good after 2 years.....

Let me think, if you are worried about scrap the front airdam then don't drive the car. The airdam will scrap there is noway around it, it scraps going over speed bumps, uneven road and sections of the road with dips in it.
The airdam left and right sections cost $13 and the center section cost $40.
Here is an idea which I haven't seen on a C5 yet is to convert the C5 to a 4x4 with a 12 inch lift and 44 inch ground hawg tires then you will have no fear of scrapping
Thanks to everyone for the responses. Except Zilla, that is. I was looking for ways that other owners lessened the thing that is an annoyance every time I go in and out of the driveway. Most of you took it in that spirit.

There is no way to eliminate this - I don't even want to call it a problem. It's a fact of life owning a Vette. That's what Zilla was telling you and it was meant to be in jest - note the grin at the end of the post.
Get used to taking speed bumps, dips and driveways slowly, one wheel at a time - otherwise you'll drive yourself nuts worrying about it!
My car is lowered, so it's even a little worse. When the air dam get scrapped enough - I'll get another. That's what Zilla was telling you.
I cut 2" off my air dam a few years back. Never scraped again. Ever. I've got about 5" of clearance under the airdam now. It's about even with the small bars underneath the nose, so if I were actually able to scrape the airdam, I'd be scraping a lot more.

Dope
By doing that you are also reducing the amount of air flow your engine is seeing. Let the darn thing scrape, it is designed to do that, that is why they are hinged, to give a little.
I cut mine 1" and I never had scraping problems. I figured that rather than have it broken and dangling while Im driving, cutting it is a more sensible solution.
I drive with my coolant temp display on the DIC and I had never seen any temperature rise following this step.
I am always very careful, but I (as everyone else) will still scrape on occassion. I have to be very careful in and out of the driveway. I have become so accustomed to taking parking lot entrances and every other bump/rise at an angel, that it has become habit, and I even do it while driving my girlfriends SUV.
It's going to scrape, so I just accept it as an audible warning to be extra careful.
A word about Zilla and about 90% of the forum members here. I am impressed with the wit, humor and wisdom found on here, and I know that my remarks at times can be a little "out-there". This is a very informative place, yet it is always fun. Corvette's .... the reason for our brother/sister hood. We are family!

You can always just take the airdam off. Then you won't scrape.
