I am 58 years old and I remember during the 1950's Amoco in Mobile, Alabama was PanAM Gasoline. Along about 1960 or 1965 it became Amoco and has remained that way . We still have Amoco stations in Mobile, Al.

BTW, someone posted earlier on this thread about no Chevron stations in Tn. I was just in Chattanoogna this week in my Vette and filled it up at a Chevron station there. A few minutes after filling up I saw another one. I don't know how many are actually in Tn. but I know for a fact that there were at least 2 of them there this week.

Regarding Chevron and Texaco, I have had a Chevron Credit card since 1967 and a Texaco credit card for at least 25 or 30 years. Now that they have gotten all scrambbled I finanally said screw it because Chevron sent me a new card with Chevron and Texaco on the same card. Texaco changed my card to a Shell card and changed all Texaco stations that I know about near me to Shell stations. I now use Chevron gas exclusively but either pay cash or put it on a Visa card I use for monthly purchases. I figure that's two less bills I get each month and two less postage stamps I use each month.

That was me! Never noticed one when in Chattanooga. Then again, I'm usually heading west out of the Nashville area via I-40. There are probably more, might be a few in and around Nashville. Just happens the only one I have ever seen is east of Memphis.

For some reason I remember buying gas from AMOCO in either the Wash DC area or Boston area in the 1970's. The nature of the company may have changed in 1989, but the company itself existed well before that date.

Whats a hundred years?
I guess I could blame it on Bush, but it was really a typo on my part....1989 should read 1889.... I will go back and edit it immediately.
Why did they place the 9 so closed to the 8?

Well thanks for updateing my history, and yes it may have gotten a little fuzzy.
But I still remember the day in 1979 when my Standard oil sign was taken down and replaced with an Amoco one in Mi.
And your right about the Sherman Anti-trust breaking up Rockfeller's
regime. But there were many back room deals in those days as there are now, and we will never know about them in any history book.
