My appointment with Ed Wright is coming up quick. No last minute should's and should not's from anyone? I want to kill torque management and bump the timing, along with firming up the shifts; and anything else they might suggest. Got my 8100 Yukon XL running great with a Westers tune. Hope these guys do as well. And Westers didn't have the truck to work on in person!
mn6 here and with bad gas WOT will not spin the tires if i dont drop the clutch. with good gas and easy on the clutch (let the clutch out at 900 rpm then step on it) 300 feet of black lines and lots of smoke. could be fuel related.
More Than Zero
I have a mn6 and with the traction control on, while rolling at 25 to 30mph in first gear, I can spin the tires and brake traction and make the system kick in. Also with the traction control off, I can brake traction while rolling and when I pull in to 2nd, it spins, grabs, and takes off. My car is stock except for the borlas.
Depending on temperature I'll get no spin to a lot of spin at launch in my A4-never white smoked the tires though. It typically grabs rubber on the 1-2 though.

Thanks to the info in this thread and the one on torque management, I FINALLY got my first tire spin. I had tried flooring it from a stop, but no squeal. I turned on the competition mode, then gave it about half or a little more gas and it did it. Kind of scared me a little. The rear end was kinda fishtailing just a hair. It was fun and im going to do it again.

The rear gear set can be changed out - and from what I understand - it is one of the more satisfying mods an A4 owner can do. I personally have a MN6 and that comes standard with the 3.42 rear end. I've heard of a lot of guys going to the 3.42 and the car really comes to life!
I love doing burn outs in my 99FRC.
2nd gear chirp?.... nope I get 2nd gear smokin burnouts!
got a set of brand new tires and rims in the garage!
I think that is a product of torque management I believe. It can be tuned out I have read on the forum.
You are exactly right. I got dynotuned at Ed Wright yesterday, the torque management was the culprit, even with traction control off
torque mamangement would not allow full throttle if you floored it. Now it (Torque management) is gone and my tires will never be the same!
tuner could do it, you get a handlheld and get it done, Ed Wright could do it as partr of a tune..... Many ways to skin the rabbit.
Hey Boomer, I have a Predator hand-held, and I don't see any provisions for changing this "torque management" thingy. Only shift timing and shift pressure, which really don't do a whole heck of a lot either, even when jacked up to the max settings.
I am not familiar with how the Predator works or if it can kill Torque Management, I am fairly sure that I have read on this board that it can. I had a tuner (Live) work on mine yesterday. Do a search for Predator on here and I am sure you will get more info than you need. Good Luck, turning it off gives the C5 a whole new attitude!!
Torque Management explains why a 2004 Lightning almost walked by me the other day when I went WOT at 30mph and felt like I had just thrown out an anchor!!

I will try this approach as well and update the board on my success!...

Could you elaborate a bit more on this, please?
Mike Mercury is an expert on the predator, try emailing him. I have read a thread from him that it will program torque management.
Please tell us what brand of gas you're using. I have an 04 CE Vert MN6 and think it's pretty quick, but 900 RPM and easy on the clutch leaves 300' of rubber? That's a football field length. You'd be well into the rev limiter long before that without shifting to 2nd ( I speak from experience here). Am I the only one that apparently got a "dog" from the factory?
Here I go again on wild statements, i.e. bone stock A4 with 2.73 running 12.s, 345 RWHP on stock C5, blah, blah.
Ok you got me,the correct statment is 1st will smoke the tires (without droping the clutch) untill I get off of it. the car is a mn6 with 3.42's and I do not know if there were internal changes to the motor before I got the car (was told that several thing were modded that I have found to be stock), but my point was that what gas I use has a very large effect on it. but thanks for providing the technical correction to my wild statement.
