I agree, the C6 does feel lighter and more responsive in some ways, just like that Mercedes I test drove with 350 hp. But it is an illusion and the C6 will not be able to stay up with the Z06. The Winter issue of Corvette Quarterly has a nice comparison of the two cars. They are both fantastic and I mean no disrespect to the C6, nor to the people who favor the new styling.
Don't forget that the C6 was only intended to be COMPARABLE to the Z06, which it is. And for about $9000 less! (Excluding current, year end, deep discounts) The C6 Z is yet to come. There will be no contest.

Actually you are right that there will be no contest between the C5 and C6 Z06, but only on the race track. I suspect that the opportunities to demonstrate a practical difference in daily driving will be few and far between. And in my case there will be no opportunities at all because I salute anyone in a vette no matter the year.
There is also an unknown quantity with the C6 Z06 that could discourage me from getting one. I put 150,000 miles on my C4 and my 2004 Z06 gets better mileage. My son complains about the mileage he gets on his Nissan Xterra and I delight in mentioning that my Z06 is better. For the sake of daily drivers I hope the new Z doesn't sacrifice much in this regard.
The exterior look is growing on me. The convertible pictures remind me of my first vette. However, I am not impressed with the interior at all. I feal that the interior is reminisent of a malibu. I feel that the seats in my Z are more comfortable. Another thing I dont like is all the electric gizmo crap. I just recently had a dead battery in my Z06. I could not do anything but open my doors and hood.
In the C6 there is only one key hole for the trunk. GM's recomended procedure for getting in the car with a dead battery is to climb through your trunk!
I dont know about you, but I have had three GM cars with the remote locks. After so many uses the battery in that goes dead.
You will have to climb through your trunk while your alarm goes off and get in the car to put the thing in your glove box so you can start your car.
I have had friends with similar features in other cars get stranded and had to have the car towed. You know it will happen on a day you least expect

I recently purchased a black on black 2004 Z06 and had no idea of the potential problem with the battery. Thanks for the info. I agree with your evaluation of the C6 in most ways, but the black exterior hides most features of the C6 that I don't like. The beige interior also is not as harsh, but I prefer black or red.
I had a C4 for ten years and had dead batteries in both the keyless entry system and the car itself, but never had to climb in through the rear to get at the battery. Are you sure of this?
I've loved the way they look from the first time I saw one in person. I've always loved the look of the C5 and the Z06, well damn... very mean. The thing I keep thinking about the C6 is how that front end looks made for a giant honking spearco intercooler...
It seems that if there's less mass on the ends, it would have to be more nimble.
More 'toss-able' is how the GM pr stuff reads. But it's not as if you're moving heavy chrome bumpers inward. There's not a lot of mass in the first three inches of the front or the last two of the rear. It's mostly thin plastic and air.
On the other hand, the 1.2 inch longer wheelbase makes the car slower to respond and likely offsets any small gains in that department, while the shorter overhangs adversely affect drag and other airflow issues.
Since the car is heavier than the Z, any difference in feel is primarily down to changes in the tires and suspension, many of which would likely have also worked on the C5. Whether tirewear will be affected remains to be seen.

They didn't remove the first three inches. They removed the three inches closest to the wheels. The ends are still there. So even if they only saved 20lbs on each end, that's substancial, and it was probably more. And what about moving all that steel bumper stuff in an additional three inches? Maybe it didn't take the weight off, but it moved it more toward the center of the car.
I believe the drag coefficient remains about the same. So I don't think a longer wheelbase had much effect on that issue.
c6 drag coefficient sounds as important as a pubic hair.to what ever you want to imagine!!!..C6 to Z06.......??????.Huge difference.....What the hell.....????
All i want to see is the real C6 Z06 photos and real spec's from Detroit in January,,, ( kind of sick and tired of all the second guessing
I have to add my 2 cents worth to this thread and say that I too do not like the looks of the C6. My issues seem to be somewhat different then those mentioned so far...my disdain is for the styling (or lack thereof) of the rear end of the car. To me it looks like someone backed it into a large belt sander and accidently ground off a foot or two. I think I could stand it if they added some length to the back end. It is a very awkward looking car as it sets...absolutely no symmetry to the design. It seems that making it marketable in Europe overtook the priority of good design. It is tragic to me that the connsumate American sports car should be subjected to such hideous styling. I am not that crazy about the front end styling, but I can tolerate it far more than I can the ugly back side!

The're on another thread here with photos if you want a look. As a vociferous C6 hater, I would have to concede that it is better than the C6 in design and looks a bit more aggressive but the overall shape remains disappointing even if the 7.0 is a massive consolation.
