I was at the dealer today and got my first personal look at a C6 in the showroom....with a $ 10k additional dealer mark-up sticker on it I might add.... 62k.....

The salesman said the C6 Z06 will not be a notchback and will have a pumped up 6.0 liter

If there is no more notchback I am keeping my 04 Z06...last of the notchbacks ???? I like that...I guess...I hate hatchback cars...to much glass...even if it has a trunk but with that hatchback coupe glass...no thanks GM. The sale guy said the notchback goes away because the coupe body has better Cd....thats true but...still no thanks....

If the "pumped up 6.0 liter" is true....no thanks again...what would that be...maybe another 40 - 50 HP....

Let the engine mods begin....

What a crock. Dude, you are so funny. I imagined the same thing while waiting at a light in my Envoy. One time- on my way to band camp, I was next to a guy and his wife in a Z06. I looked over and could read her lips- "no he will get you."

Don't be so darn jealous. Face it, the C5 had its time in the sun. Be happy for oher people that are getting the new model.

IMHO, the C6 is BY FAR better looking than the Z. That is why I've got an order in on a C6, and I didn't pick up a (last year's model) C5 Z06.

Just my $0.02.

I think we're all being a little defensive about the arrival of the C6. I've had the opportunity to drive the coupe and found it to be every bit a Corvette. What I didn't get from the experience was that "GOTTA HAVE IT!!" feeling I got the first time I drove the Z06, which I bought on the spot. The $10 grand over sticker tells me there are plenty of takers for the newest Vette and with the arrival of after-market tweaks, we'll soon have some competition on the road. But an extra $10 grand gets me supercharged so I'll stay ahead in the game.

This cracks me up....

Every time a new generation comes out of an automobile the owners of the previous model all scream bloody murder regardless of manufacturer when it happens. But then it grows on them, and the reality is that 3-4 years from now, 75% of you will own a C6 (Z06 or otherwise)

The reality is that they are both great cars, beauty is certainly in the eyes of the beholder, and I didn't like the C6 at first (I saw it at teh auto show in new york and in philly earlier in the year) but it has grown on me to the point that I'm dying to get one.

Thanks,
Adam

Well, to me the front looks killer. I think they desined the car fairly well but when it came to the back, it's like they had a clay model, kick it in the back and said... that looks good enough... But hell no, that rear really sucks!!!

Viper guys like the fact that there isnt alot of vipers around for 80 grand plus they could keep it, the new zo6 will most likley be 60 - 70 grand, still a good bang for the buck but chevy could keep it. I'm glad i modded my z. put a pro charger on a stock z @ 8pounds of boost and it puts 610rwhp for 8 grand more.

the c7 maybe 5 years away?????

and the c6z..maybe to expensive to go crazy over???? then what?

i am happy for a couple of years to keep my Z.....it does not make sense to get rid of a classic rocket ship just to keep up with the Jones' new model.....

Thats cool that you have the C6 and like it...in this case you have it *** backwards..the Z is better than the new C6.....You still have a nice car , but it aint as good!!!

What ever turns you on.....if you have a 12 inch crank, why trade it in for a 8 inch one?????

I got the 75% number directly from several articles in the car mags...Motor Trend, Car and Driver. I didn't make up the number, I read it and I agree with it. The 75% number is a direct Dave Hill quote as I stated in my post.

Oh yes he did...read the article in the September 2004 issue of Motor Trend. On page 52 the author mentions this assertion from Dave Hill as I stated previously...I rest my case.

The article specifically compares the C6 Z51 package to the stock C5 Z06 and states that the C5 Z06 is a better handling car. As far as I'm concerned this takes nothing away from the C6...rather I would consider it a compliment. If the C6 had surpassed the C5 Z06 in performance I would be very dissapointed. Obviously the C6 Z06 will be an entirely different story.

This thread is funny.

It appears to me that alot of guys had "regular" corvettes and were jealous of the performance of the Z06 as compared to thier car, so now they finally are getting thier C6 with all the luxury they wanted in it and thinking it was going to be an equal performer to the Z06, but now they are learning that's just not the case. It's very documented that the 405HP LS-6 was underrated and really puts out closer to 425HP (GM High Tech performance magazine), whereas the LS-2 comes in as advertised. Also the C6 is heavier than the C5 Z06, quite a bit actually..at least a woman's weight worth ~120lbs. That makes a big difference in performance. Many magazines say you certainly can feel every bit of the extra weight when driving through a road course. (Road and Track)

The 75% difference (stated by Dave Hill in Corvette Magazine(I think it was that magazine)) is not just straight line acceleration. Otherwise you can say that Porche Cheyenne with the 450HP motor is equal in performance to a Z06, but everyone knows that just isn't the case (although the Cheyenne does handle well for an SUV) The 75% is the total package, braking, handling, and acceleration, and not just one at a time, but all happening contiuously over and over again like on a race track.

The C5 Z06 was a purpose built car, for the race track. Until they make the C6 purpose built version, if you want the total performance package the C5Z is still the top dog. If you want a luxurious sports car that's almost there, then that's the C6.

Road and Track this month also comment that the C6 is a little slower round the track than a Z06 "and the figures obtained seem to bear that out".

And that would be a Porsche Cayenne. LOL.

To me it looks like someone backed it into a large belt sander and accidently ground off a foot or two. I think I could stand it if they added some length to the back end. It is a very awkward looking car as it sets...absolutely no symmetry to the design. It seems that making it marketable in Europe overtook the priority of good design. It is tragic to me that the connsumate American sports car should be subjected to such hideous styling. I am not that crazy about the front end styling, but I can tolerate it far more than I can the ugly back side!
the pre-production drawings made it look like an italian knock-off; the actual car looks japanese. (and that plastic piece on the center brake light looks downright cheeeezy...)

guess it means i'll be able to save some money -- at least for now...

I am not in no rush. I love my ZO6. I plan on keeping it even if i get another one. The current Zo6 has killer looks and the performance to go with it. I'm interested in seeing this blue devil i been hearing about. But in the mean time I am having a blast. Bring on more mods!

The car magazines all panned it and the highest grade it got was a C+ for styling. Then after a couple of years it apparently started to grow on everybody. There are a few that still think the C5 rear end is too tall and plain looking below the tail lights. Too much blank space. And the front is too round and featureless. I must admit, I am one of them that was disappointed in the C5 only to find myself shelling out for a brand new one just a couple years later.

I think the C6 is probably what we should've got in 1997. Just a bit more radical than the C5. Crisp lines, more pronounced bulges in the right places. The thing that bothers me the most is that it looks like it's either slightly taller or slightly narrower. Doesn't quite have the same aspect ratio as the C5.

I agree there are a lot of points about the C6 that don't appeal to me at the moment but I'm sure that once I've been around them a bit more, it'll grow on me just like the C5 did. But then again, maybe not. Time will tell. Don't be too critical right now because you may end up eating your words later.

Well I do agree with you. I remember seeing the C4 for the 1st time and thinking it was an imitation Masserati or some European car. Big dissapointment after falling in love with the 69-71 C3s. Then I ended up buying a C4 (92). It grew on me. I like its shape much better than the C5. I still think the C5 has that "ghetto booty" back end that is just too much after looking at how low and sleek the front end is. But I'm still looking for the Z06 to be my next Vette because of all the things it does so well. I'll get over the back end. It'll probably grow on me too once it is parked in my garage every night

I really don't see the C6 as being any different.

I don't read most of the comments as trashing the C6. True, saying that it looks like a smiling guppy seems to be trashing it, but it's just an opinion. I had placed $1000 down on the C6,but when I began seeing pictures, reading specs, and hearing opinions, I backed out and bought a 2004 Z06. I may eventually get used to the looks of the C6. It took a couple of years to warm up to the C5, but I suspect it will take much longer to appreciate the C6. Especially since the interior looks cheaper, there seems to be no more space, and the rear left view is obstructed even more than the C5. But the C6 is still a vette and very special. More power to those who favor it and enjoy it.

These posts are too funny... The c6 is a better car than the c5 just ask any engineer.... looks are subjective... Once they drop the c6 z06 bomb all these c5 hangeroners will run with their tails between their legs Really it is just real evolution... it's always happened here... peeps hate to see something better come out after they purchased

p.s. this just in: the c7 will even be better, get over it
