Default "Defensive" driving

Does anyone else drive really defensively in their Corvettes? Not just with other cars, but watching for semi's that throw those pieces of gravel with our paint and windshield's name on it?? I noticed driving to Houston today that I was anticipating and judging the road construction with two semi's behind me, keeping just enough speed to hold them off and be far enough behind the vehicles in front of me until the highway was smooth and clean again. Guess it's no different from parking WAYYY out in a parking lot....

On busy roads, highways, in town, lot's of eyes, lot's of LEO's, I'm the oldest white man in America.

Back roads, no one looking, I'm the Anti-Christ.

Seriously. And I'm not the only one. I let my 59yo Dad drive from time to time. Weekdays he drives a Taurus and very, very boring.

This summer he went from 3rd to 4th while still on the ramp. Maxed out at 105mph in 3rd (rev-lim bangin), passing all 8 vehicles who seemed to stay in the right lane of the freeway, just for our own enjoyment, target practice.

They had a head start on an open freeway, we were on a curved on-ramp, there were no LEO's.,,,,,, so........ I didn't yell at him at the time.

Dad started barking like Tim Taylor and had a look on his face which told me: Mike, make him pull off at the next exit, and take your keys back

Something happens in that seat. It's true

This is exactly why I put my 16 year old through "Accident Avoidance School" at the local race track (Summit Point WV by BSR). Great class! We feel she, now is a better driver because of it, 21 and not even a fender bender.

I resemble that!!! And don't forget - I also have the High Performance 4 cyl. Racing Ranger to terrorize the roads with, too.

Well, mainly the North and West sides of JAX, anyway.

Definitely, that's me too. I've been driving Silverados for many years and I even backed into my neighbors fence last night with my 4 month old truck and didn't even worry about it. But when I get in the Vette I'm practically in a cold sweat when a semi gets in front of me. I get as far to the right or left of it as I can.

Defense? I'd wear a helmet every time I got in the car if it wasn't socially unacceptable! Lots of nuts out there.

Without a doubt. Always try to leave myself a way out of a jam, and anticipating any possible bonehead maneuvers from other drivers.
