I have another thread going about getting new wheels and exaust for my new to me 98. But I'm also thinking of an extended warranty. First how much are they and are they worth it. And if they are which one would you recommend. Thanks.
You can check prices at www.warrantydirect.com for them and http://www.extended-warranty.com for several others. I'm using mine this weekend (Warranty Direct) to repair a split inner halfshaft boot. If it doesn't turn out well you'll read about it here. Make sure you read the actual policies before you purchase. There are lots of weasel words in some of them. And even if you could but a GMPP from a sponsor, the price would be outrageous.
I looked into it and chose not to. You can buy a lot of service repair without a hastle for $1,800. Just get your rear differential fixed before your three years is up.

I have a platinum coverage with GLOBAL....3Years/36000 miles....expensive..around 3000$..but worth it!!!
they already paid around 2500$ for my car....even replace the rear tires, without many questions....our cars are very costly when things need to be fixed..so..i'll say get the best one!
good luck.
I have the GM warranty. It was recommended by a friend who is a used car dealer but also owns a C5. He had a '66 but sold it to someone in the Netherlands. He said that some of the aftermarket extended warranty companies don't always come thru. I just had my rear seal fixed on my 2000, and paid only the $100 deductible. Had the work done at the dealership. No problems. About $2000 for the 3/36 I think but very reassuring.
Mine was $1200 with a $25 deductable. Its one of the worse ones, but its paid itslef 10X over. If you are going to mod you car to the point whre it will void the waranty, its worthless. Otherwise, they are always a good idea on these cars
We bought a used 99 coupe on ebay (30,000 miles). It's in perfect condition but as you've heard these things can cost a bundle down the road. Our old 85 coupe became a money pit and we ended up spending over $4000 in the last 6 months we owned it.
I spent 2 full weeks researching all the extended warranty companies and narrowed it down to two..Warranty Direct and 1Source Warranty. They both seemed the best for a variety of reasons but 1Source offered a little better coverage for a lower price.
