[Z06] Z06 Partition-Hardtop
Coming from a car audio background of 14 yrs now,I can only say to the guys that complain that its to expensive .Have you priced labor to a good car audio shop for Dynamatt on the rear walls and wheel wells . Our average labor ticket on a new corvette is 10 hrs at only 55.00 an hour. This is before you even factor in materials and that the entire rear of your car will take at least 4 rolls at $49-69.00 a roll for the good stuff(Super Series with the aluminum.Oh yeah knowing a guy is going to have your car apart for that period of time is not the best feeling either, and when you are all said and done paying ,you only notice a slight difference in noise reduction and still have no trunk.
I being the manufacturer wish the price could come down,But,There would have to be a sacrifice in quality.Sorry that there is a few that feel this way but .....YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR !
That's My .02 cents

Thanks

in a Corvette.Yeah thats 1 36 sqft roll at 129.00. and about 2.5 hours of work for skilled labor or a good do it yourselfer. I am totally not trying to insult you. But I would help someone for free before I would send them to you at those prices. Thats insane?
I was about to get into this discussion when I noticed that it was from 2001.
But, I'm going to get into it anyway.
I made my own partition and organizer. You can not tell that it wasn't made by a parts vendor.
I made the partition out of 1"x12" pine with a 1x2" glued to the bottom(very light). I glued Owens-Corning sill plate foam gasket to the pine and put Frost King 3/4" x 5/16" weatherstripping along the top. I used black felt from the fabric store to cover it. The felt matches the carpeting almost perfect.
I made the organizer out of 2" Owens-Corning foam insulation. I sandwiched it with a piece of 1/4" plywood on the top and bottom.
I then cut out 4 square holes (not the bottom piece) in the plywood and foam. I covered it with the black felt ( I spray glued the felt to the plywood.) I bought 2 black 6" square kitchen drawer organizers and 2 black 3" square ones.
It all fits like a glove. The 6" organizers are great for CD's or wallets etc. The 3" is great for a cup holder or cell phones.
This all may sound like a cheesy partition, but I already have my Corvette friends asking me to make one for them.
If I knew how to upload pictures, I would post them.
This whole project cost me about 50-60 dollars.
I will try to find out how to post pics.

(A) I use two (2) one inch thick foil backed polyurethane foam sheets.
(B) This new partition will have two (2) 6.50" Bose speakers installed. Two mirror speaker mounting flanges each will sandwich the speakers. The front facing interior flange will be recessed so that it will not protude .
(C) A .125 dense foam will be laid over the surface ( with speaker diameter cutouts) to give a softer panel look.
(D) Also I've machined the Z06 script out of individual .125 and .250 plastic that will give me a stacked & raised embossed look. Kind of like this but larger ( this C5 emblem was hand carved, the Z06 is machined for a crisp look:

(E) I'm using black leather with 3/16" border piping.
(F) Speaker grills ; I've not made a final decision but either the black OEM grills or the OEM SST mesh used on the front fog light housings.
