Default How far can you go?

Well, after 2.5 years of owning my vette I'm finally going on my first real road trip - from Indy to Fairfield Glade, TN. It should be around 850 miles round trip. Since this will be my first road trip, I was wondering what the most miles anyone has gone on one tank of gas? Will I be able to do 425 miles without making a stop?

P.S. I also plan on making my first stop at the NCM on my way back Tuesday.

I agree with Grumpy - about 420-430. I took mine to Canada from CT, 1244 round trip - one week after buying it 2 months ago.

Awesome car - save the wave

I've gone from here in Jefferson City,MO to Nashville TN on one tank (about 450 miles one way) and still had a little fuel left. Most trips I can average better than 30 mpg in the car. A lot will depend on how you drive and the conditions, but 400+ miles should be attainable.

You should be able to do it but you'll be cutting it close near the end. Enjoy your first visit to the museum.

I've been 430 miles between fill ups in both my 99 auto coupe, and my 04 6 speed coupe, several times. I fill up in Houston, Texas and then 430 miles later in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Reading this thread just has me amazed at the consistency
of modern manufacturing.
I absolutely agree that you can get 430-440 miles out of
a tank of gas at 70 mph on fairly level hiway in 6th gear.

In the same vein, even the Corvette bugaboos (column lock/bum gas gauge/rocking seat, etc) are CONSISTENT throughout the entire production run. Ya gotta hand it to modern engineering and manufacturing techniques.

I've been 425, but it is a stretch. Look for good fuel at 400!

I drive from Dallas to College Station a lot. 185 miles one way so 370 miles plus another 20-30 in-town driving around College Station. Usually see "reserve fuel" just as I get back home so I'd guess 430-450 would be max. But now I usually fill up in CS because there aren't a lot of gas stations in some areas in central TX...

We took the vette to Sea Grove Beach Florida, 99 coupe, 285 miles most interstate driving, then another 40 on two lane before the light came on, 325 miles, took 16.4 gallons!
Enjoy the trip, the ride is great

I'm surprised mileage isn't higher than people are experiencing. Isn't the C5 tank capacity close to 19 gals. On the highway at 30 mpg that should be 570 miles max, or more like 500 miles on a tank before getting worried.

On the other hand, the most gas I've pumped in my car after getting the "Hey, I'm not kidding about low gas!" message is 17.6 gals. I don't know how much reserve there is when you get the second warning.

31 mpg from Amarillo, TX to Santa Fe, NM and back at 75 mph all the way - both ways

I think what rear end gears you have will make or break the mileage you want to obtain. Mine is 2.73.

Probably not the best idea to let the tank run too low. Tough on the fuel pump. My mechanic told me that the fuel pump relies on cooling from having gas in the tank. He said best to not let it get too much below a quarter tank. Don't know if thats the case but at least that's what he told me. Enjoy your road trip while mine sits here in the garage hibernating.
