Yeah! Get OnStar and the cops can find your car after it's stolen and trashed. Dealerships continue to convince naive buyers that OnStar is a antitheft device. By the time you can call OnStar and get a cop to the location your Vette will be trashed or at minimum the cops will probably be pursuing it on the local news at 6PM. I know I worked auto theft for 7+ years.
Check out the GPS 2000 by Omega. Its a GPS based system will notify you via call to your cell phone if your car is tampered with even before it moves. You can track it online or via phone and you can also shut the car down so it won't start via phone or computer. So lets say you get a call about unaurthorized entry you could then call and program the car not to start. You may want to check it out.
A pro will most likely use a flat bed truck and just pick it up and take it to the chop shop.....
An alarm that sends a message to your phone or paper alerting you of some one tampering with your car is very nice, and can be very benifical IF you are able to 1. RUN to your car 2. Produce some sort of weapon (ie a hand gun or assault rifle) 3. getting to your car before they take it 4. willingness to use the weapons (if u don't have the heart to use it IT WILL be used againts you).
Put a Rattlesnake inside the car. j/k... On the bright side, a hidden kill switch should work also. Wire the kill switch on the positive cable for your starter.
I must say that those airbags for suspension ride perhaps might actually be something handy to prevent theft... you put rubber stops at the bottom of the frame, once you're parked, you let it go all the way down to the rubber stops, that way the car is basically sitting on the stops, flat on the ground.
There is no easy way to get a tow truck to move a car that is not supported by its wheels without doing a lot of damage to it, in which case the professionals might pass that one up. Professionals know what to steal and they go for the easy ones first, if they see its gonna be a lot of problems, there are plenty of Corvettes around to steal, they'll move on.

But the TV/RADIO commercials make it sound so good.
Unfortunately, EatRice is correct, if someone wants your car bad enough he will get it. I've found that the best way to protect your car at night is by parking it in your locked garage, but I am assuming that is not currently an option for you?
The best you can hope for is to make your car difficult to steal. An aftermarket alarm, a club, one of those locks on your break pedal. It sucks I know but that is the society we live in. Car thieves rarely do long-term prison sentences despite all the disruption they can cause to their victims.
LoJack and a decent aftermarket alarm system with 2 way LCD pager. Go to sleep without worries. Plus, corvettes are not commonly stolen. Too easy to be spotted by cops. A cop told me that.
I agree with the kill switch for the starter, has any one done this?
couple that with an alarm that sends a message to your phone and you should be set. I personaly don't want my car back if someone steals it and abuses it.
Just got LoJack installed on mine. They also have an extra cost function called Early Warning you can buy. You have an extra little fob on your keychain. When the car gets started/moved, LoJack tries to query the fob.
If the fob is not in the immediate area - as in somebody else is moving/stealing your car - then LoJack will send their homebase a signal. In a few minutes you will get an automated call, and/or email and/or page informing you some fobless yahoo is driving your car. You can set up whatever you wish on their website. I bought a cheap cell phone and take it with me when I travel with my car.
When you receive the call, if possible, you are supposed to try and determine if your car is indeed actually gone (rather than a false signal), and then call the cops who then activate the regular LoJack tracker.

Look into getting an Autotaser. I have not seen one defeated yet. It can probably be done, its just not worth the risk. Since it is activated by an internal motion sensor, it is probably not the best choice if you leave a pet (or kid) in the car.

Lojack and Smith & Wesson.
Dont get Lojack from the car dealer.....get a better price if yo u call direct. I swear by both options. If Lojack doesnt get it back within a day....you dont want it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Club aint worth it.....but i do believe that the more deterrents makes it annoying to try to take it...........
Personally I think LoJack is a joke. There is limited range for it to be picked up, so it needs to be reported pretty quick, because much beyond the city limits it's useless; and 2: if my car has been stolen and thrashed I sure as hell don't want it back! Take it away for good---I'll get another one. There's a reason I pay for insurance.

LoJack claims 70,000 cars recovered in the US. On what actual facts do you base your personal opinion that LoJack is a joke?

70,000 cars recovered out of how many millions stolen? And again, would you want your car back after someone's driven the ever-livin-**** outta it? Just imagine the long term damage and premature wear it would incur.
