Question. I am thinking of going from Mobil One to AMS Oil, same viscosity, on my 00, 29,000 miles. Also going to K&N Filter. My first reason to change is the advertisments on AMS's quality over Mobil's. Second, although not AMS oil and I believe on this forum that a member got rid of the piston slap at startup by going to (and I can't remember the oil brand) onther top brand oil. I run Mobil One in our 04 Camry, but am trying AMS in my 4 cylnder Ranger with 48 grand on it. I am still a firm believer in Mobil One. Any members running AMS or any comments plus or neg.
Well, my brother-in-law put over 300,000 miles on his Toyota minivan using plain old dino-oil, so perhaps you might be able to get 400,000+ miles on your C5 by going to a $5.00/quart oil!
Seriously, it is unlikely that you will ever benefit from going to more expensive oils unless you intend to race frequently. However, if it makes you feel better, go for it.
Up here in Wis. Oils get contaminated fast in below zero weather, although syn oil cast off moisture through the tail pipe the oil still gets contaminated from engine firing, frost and just plain dirt through normal driving. The benefit is the syn is easy starting at -20 below. I would love to be in Calif. with our vert.

As long as it at least meets the same specs as Mobil 1, then Amsoil should be fine. I haven't had any problems with Mobil 1 though, so I will stick with it.

Dolen, I would think that the oil life monitor algorythm takes all that into consideration, meaning yes, you may have to change oil more often than someone in CA, but I recall cars in Connecticut that lasted over 150,000 miles using petroleum-based oils.
