I mounted mine to the rearview and then hardwired it into the mirror with no problem. Quick install and it is out of the way.

Default Remote V1 Installation

http://www.1-radar-laser-jammers-det...ne1-radar.html

I don't personally know of anyone with this remote installation kit but it seems pretty cool and I am not sure about rear detection on it.

Check out all of the packages because some of them require that you already own a V1 and you have to send it to them for modification.

...used the mirror mount...
...hardwired to on passenger side footpanel...

In the 2001 there is an accessory set of wires which I also used to permit power to the V1 when the ignition is switched on...

So what are you guys using in the older model C5's like the 99 FRC...?
I dont find the accessory pigtail in the 99 as I did in my 2001...

According to this site, you maintain rear detection capabilities. I think the problem with that is you would drastically reduce the line of sight on the detector. Valentine recommends mounting AS HIGH as you can while still having front and back views...

Seen someone that makes a mirror with a V1 installed inside it -- looked REALLY cool but doesn't work with auto-dimming mirrors.

Hey Gunnit...try the visor mount from Great Lakes Trophies. I think it might be just the ticket for you! I just got one and like the location much better than the mirror. The mirror location is good, but it can be seen from outside the car, whereas the visor mount is almost impossible to see from outside the car.

My concern is mounting it behind the tinted portion (top) of your window is it could make it lose some of it's sensitivity due to the tint of the glass????

I have my V-1 mounted with suction cups to the left of the mirror, as high up into the tint as possible...which renders it virtually invisible from the outside. I have had no problem picking up adequate warnings.

Just received my brand new V1 and the manual says, "Do not install behine window tint...this will reduce range/effectiveness of the unit".

I have mine mounted up as high as possible too. It pointed out 7 cops waiting to write out tickets yesterday alone! I have had no problems with it being up that high at all.

For those of you who have the V1 and the electrochromatic rear view mirror mount from Great Lakes, would you agree that the length of cable needed to pull the power from the rear view mirror is about 6" - 8"? I plan on ordering the mirror mount from Great Lakes and the cable from member TeamSpeed but I want to make certain the length is long enough but not so long that it hangs down.

Thanks.

Get the standard 8" length. As you cross over the length of the mirror, the 8" works perfect. I have the Great Lakes mount with 8" cord and it works super!

The great lakes visor mounts has the unit sit JUST under the tint... Works great...

I will post a pic if I can.

(I am not very picky, but from behind works for me...) Does the wiring harness allow it to be moved from car to car?

I "hardwired" it by running the V1 supplied 8' RJ11 cord through the windsheild header, down the passenger side A pillar, through the dash and then behind it into the passenger side footwell. There's a fuseblock there, and hardwired it by splicing the supplied converter into the pigtail.

I chose the pair of wires that are hot when the ignition is on, that way the detector turns off when the ignition is off.

It doesn't vibrate or shake and works out very well! Sorry I have no pics of the installation, but I suppose I could take some and email them to you.

Never knew this existed. I'm going to order one today.

Thanks,

Mac

After all the good advice I received, I decided on the visor mount from Great Lakes. I'll be installing it soon and take some pics.
