The way I see it, you sent the Vette to a turner in part due to concerns of the dealership's abilities and workmanship as well as the anticipation the failure was caused by the modifications. Once disassembled the source of the problem was found to be an apparent GM manufacturing failure. I'm sure some of us see both sides of the issue. You might consider some form of mediation to resolve the dispute. Your owner's manual may even have information concerning protocol for handling disputes.
yes i am sol..actually sent the car off to have some performance upgrades, a hood and dyno tuned..no close tuner to me--like i said-thought it was something simple...they take the motor out--found ther problem and immediately took the motor to dealership--figured less time--obvious problem and quick replacement--NOT--GM rep took 1 look and said--NO WARRANTY--motor apart (for easy inspection) theres a 6500.00 lesson--will not even give me a block or heads--NOT COOL--block was never touched--i cant put anything on the outside of it that would make the cam bolts back out---there you have it--magnusson moss act--as long as the part you install does not cause the failure--it is warranty
The magnusson moss covers add on equipment that does not cause the problem. In your case, you violated the warranty by now having GM do the work. It is clearly stated that warrany work must be performed by an authorized representative of GM (usually a dealer). That is to protect GM; how can you prove those parts came out of your vette?
Nobody did you wrong. You make major performance modifications and show up with a bunch of broken parts. I think every dealer and every manufacturer would turn that down. I'm sure everyone involved knows that is why only the parts were taken in and not the whole car. Dealers aren't stupid, the've seen that game before. So has the GM rep.
well, i took advice on shop it was sent to-take the motor to dealership for quick replacement **its apart where they can see what happened and i will not have to wait a month for the motor**( NOT )-otherwise it would have went to GM..does not matter whether it was modified or not--the engine was never opened up and the any modification i did--DID NOT cause the cam bolts to back out..My only mistake was not taking it to GM when it happened..I originally thought it was from one of my mods ** thats why the car was sent off to be fixed--was told it was #7 and it was common***but when i found out it wasnt, i took the advice of shop to let them take motor to dealership in which GM (now i know) has the right and proper procedure to pull it and disassemble it to find the problem--when they saw it--they said no warranty-didnt even care why it happened-no warranty because it was disassembled and they didnt do it.(i did not know this as said went from what shop said) .So its not me trying to pull the wool over anyones eyes and all the negative thoughts--i see why you would think that but it doesnt help to ask for any type of mental/knowledge support and get trashed..Makes me think twice about owning a product i have had wished/dreamed for since a kid..I am stuck paying for a new complete motor--Thanks for all insight END OF STORY...Thanks, Dave
