Got my recall notice in the mail today. I noticed that you can request reimbursement from GM if you repaired the problem on your own.
I've read that some here have received money back for their CLBs.
Would it be ok if I just copied all my receipts and mailed them in with the form? My column never locked up on me, so I never took it to any shop/dealer for service in that area.
I just followed the advice of the people here and got a CLB. No problems.
Any ideas on how to get the cash back from GM? Thanks!

I've heard this too. I would have thought that you had to have a problem and then fixed it outside the recall, but it is certainly worth a try. The worst they can do is deny the claim.
I filled out the reimbursement form and sent it to GM along with my receipt. A few days ago I received a call from GM customer service denying my claim since it wasn't related to the recall.
She suggested going to my local dealer and if they signed off on the fix they would process the claim. If they didn't agree I could have it reviewed by a GM rep.
I figured for the $ 50 it cost me for the part it wasn't worth the hassle knowing at the end of the day GM would still deny it.
Getting it refunded would be about successful as trying to get a rebate from Best Buy. I bought some things there because of the glorious promises of rebates. I jumped through all their hoops and only received the smallest rebate ($15.00). Never did receive the $100.00 one and the other one that was about $40.00-50.00. Thats been a year now. I won't go back to Best Buy ever!!!
