No different than any other typical marriage -- compromises, constant companionship, always having to answer to someone, etc. The Corvette is not free to do whatever it wants anymore, like the Corvette used to do as a bachelor.
It may be time for a divorce ............jimmy

Z06Vette405 makes a few good points. There will be many items comprimised for the sake of compatability. The upside is, the platform has been well tested for over a year now. Many bugs will have been worked out long ago by Cadillac. We get to enjoy a more reliable "first year" model. Another benefit will be the scale of economy. If they make the same chassis for more than one car, they can afford to give us a superior chassis for the same or less money than they were able to with the C5. I think that we can all appreciate that our C5's can compete with world classs cars that are upwards of $100,000. This is how GM does it. I prefer paying $50 to $60k as opposed to $150k+ for a Modena, Gallardo or GT3turbo. jmho

robvuk,

Yep, you are right... From an engineering and financial standpoint there's a lot that can be gained by sharing the platform.

For me, I could get over the sharing of the platform if the C6 appealed to me as much as the C5 with regards to looks -- both exterior and interior.

I also wish the C6 was a bit lower than it is.

GM plans to sell 5,000-6,500 of them a year and they can't do that at $70k.

Their formula for the Z was about a 20% to 25% premium over the base C5. I can't believe they would attempt to ruin that by bumping it up to 40% or 50%! That $70k number has been floating around a lot and i wonder if anybody knows where it came from. They LOWERED the price of a base C6, why would they raise the Z by 30%?

Let's call the C6 what it should be called then,

"CADDY CORVETTE"

Yuck!
-Bill.

I also don't think they can pull off a Z06-C6 either. We'll see very soon. The Z06-01-04 will become a classic. It's the best car on the road right now.

I haven't driven a C6, but there are some physical looks to the car that I don't really like. I don't love all Vette generations, some of them seemed to take a little bit of time to "sink in". The C4's looked almost good and I got used to their look. I don't like that the side of the cars tucks so drastically and the rear fascia cut off so short exposing the underbelly. Interior to me was blah, hate the gauges and a bunch of other things.

But, when I first saw the C5, I fell instantly in love. It was smooth, wide, interior looked great, guages looked amazing(I think the best looking guages in the whole auto industry ever!)and it just had style all its own. Of course, some dillweeds said it looks like a NSX<ugly), but in actuality they just wish their NSX would look like the C5.

To me, the the new parts of the C6 looks too much of the Euro type cars. It just doesn't seem to scream "Vette" at you when you look at it. They kept the basic shape of the C5 and slapped on a new front end, rear end and sharpened up some lines. The rear is hideous to me and it looks like it's all warped?!? Of course, their is technological advances internally that probably give great performance, but based on what I hear maybe give it a more plush "caddy" like ride? I'm not sure if I'd hate that, but I do like to be reminded sometimes that I ain't driving a rolling couch. I'll have to drive one sometime, but for now I'm stickin' with my Z.
