I drove the new C6 last week and it is a nice car, but not the vette for me, but i would buy one for my wife. I will keep both my 04 Z06/Z16 and my 03 50th. I will look at the new Z06 when it comes out?
Just because it is more solid and refined does not make it an old man's car. Everybody has an opinion. Don't forget the C6 is NOT a Z06 replacement. That's next year.
I just came back from the dealer and he confirmed that picture of the Z that's been floating around as being the real thing.(for what it's worth). The body is 4 inches wider in the rear AND the front. Rear tires 12" wide. The frame is "partially" aluminum. The 500hp is a "conservative" estimate.
Don't take the wash on teh C6... mod the damn thing. Get some LGM or DRM coil-overs, better wheels/tires, heads/ca and bolt ons... you'll be kicking Z06 ***.
It's as soft as the C6 w/z51, some supension upgrades and engine tuning.
NOT the classic that the 05-Z06 is.
REMEMBER guys and gals the Z06 is based on the C5.
The new C6-z06 is based on the C6.

uhhh.. how can it be as soft if it has suspension upgrades???
SOME engine tuning??? 100hp+
Who's to say the C6 won't be a classic? You??
C6Z based on a C6 is a bad thing???
I know it hurts to purchase a nice car like a Z06 and suddenly have it obsoleted in another 6 or 8 months from now but, that's progress, like it or not. For all you crystal ball users, I think only time will tell.
I like the reference regarding basic c5’s and c6’s to a hair-dresser’s car. I have a good friend with a 2000 c5 with automatic. A very nice car; but not one that got my adrenalin flowing. The ZO6 was the first Vette that really got me excited to buy. The awesome ZR1’s of the 90’s were too expensive, relatively, to be doable.
I love my ‘02 Z, but I expect that the C6 ZO6 replacement could win me over. But I also remember what it is like to wait for the car that will never be built. If you go back to the early 70’s we were to expect a mid-engined Vette to replace what was yet to called the C3. Those that passed up 370hp LT1’s and ’71 LS6’s hoping for the mid engine cars ended up having to settle for 200-230 horsepower for the next 15 years.

This is an interesting point. I truly believe GM has only stepped up to the plate maybe three times in the past thirty years with the Corvette.
(1)The '84 set the platform for a truly world class car
(2)The ZR-1
(3)The '01 Z06
At some point we're going to start going backwards or just holding ground.
I think the pivotal question with the next Z06 is whether or not it's a 427. If it has the 6.4 like originally predicted, I'm going to be really disappointed.
I don't know what video you are watching, but in the above WMV file the C6 got whooped.
First, people tend to see only what they want to see.
Second, you apprently didn't watch the whole video where the Z16 got whooped in the drag race.
Third, an automatic probably wouldn't downshift from a 40 or 50mph roll.
Fourth, it looked to me like the Z16 hit the gas first and got a few cars ahead right from the start.
Fifth, in the drag, interestingly, the Z16 couldn't gain on the C6 like it did in the rolling start shots. Only proves it was an automatic downshift issue.
