I drive mine in the rain (if it's not a storm - GY runcraps have zero grip on slick roads)
The way I look at it, it just gives me yet another excuse to wash and detail it.
I paid cash for my car, and when it wears out - I'll just buy another one. In the meantime, I'm not going to abuse it or mistreat it - but I am going to drive it...
I guess it takes all sorts to make a world - but your Vette IS a car, right? You do drive cars right?
Maybe I'm just missing something....

My forum buddies and I have had a get together almost every other week since October, we've been more busy now than in the summer!! Yet, some people have had their vettes in hibernation since Nov. 1st.
Speaking of get togethers. What is next before my car goes to sleep for the winter.
Once the snow and salt comes. You will not see my car until it is all cleared up.
If the roads are clear of snow and salt, my Vert is out. The biggest pleasure of owning a Vette is driving it. And yes, my 1998 Vert looks perfect, inside, outside, underside....
This is my first winter of owning my Vette but I intend to drive it when the weather is ok. Cold doesn't matter much to me as any kind of deterent. I've owned lots of sports cars and I drove them all year long. Too much fun not to drive them!!
I just don't care to drive it that much in the winter months.
The most fun I have with my Corvette is drag racing with my friends (at the track ONLY) and taking it to an occasional car show.
Racing season here in PA is over and so is the car show season.
It's dark by 5 pm and it's cold so it just isn't fun like it is in the summer.
I just decide to park it every winter (12/1 to 3/1), and take off all the insurance except comprehensive which saves a bunch. I do winter mods to the car every year and then in the Spring, it's like driving a new car again. I do NOT miss driving the car at all in the winter.
It's a real joy to celebrate Spring by bringing the Corvette back out again.
This year it will emerge from hibernation with new LG headers and a Hurst Roll Control, ready for the 2005 racing Season which begins in March.
We get mostly rain in north Alabama, and snow is unusual but certainly not unheard of. We do have an 'average' snowfall. I try not to drive mine in the rain because it gets so grimy, plus the chances of being run ito increase significantly. I would not drive it in the snow unless I got caught at work (but then around here, we usually just wait til it melts to drive anything, which at most is a few days).
Seems to me like storing would not be good for the car. But I can see where in areas that have snowcover most of the winter, like the upper midwest, the mountains, upstate New York, or most of New England, storage would be beneficial.
Drive mine all year round but I am in Vancouver BC where we get tons of rain.
And when it starts you never know when it's going to stop.
I put mine away on November 20 and it's been #@# ever since. Timed it right this year. I only get 7 months insurance and when it runs out it's off the road. If you cancel the insurance you have to turn in your plate. And then pay for a new one in the spring. Cheap but what can I say I hate giving them any more money than I have to.
Mine's a daily driver, come rain, shine, sleet or even snow. I have owned 4 vettes since 1998 and all have been daily drivers. With a heavy coat of Zaino I do not fear the elements. But you must use caution when driving a rear drive torque monster with wide tires, so there are days when the Z sits. But usually doesn't last more than a few days here in southern Illinois.
Beause it's hard to wash it when the temp drops below zero! It is still above freezing here but its going to drop soon and I usually wait one day too long to put it up.
If there is no salt, snow or ice on the road I'll drive mine.
I actually was suppose to pick up my car today from MCM but it was snowing out so hopefully tomorrow. I just had there hood installed/painted and then my car wheeled out by their body shop so it would be stupid to drive it home in some slush or wet roads.
The only real problem I have run into with my Z06 is that the tires are so cold all the time that I can easily spin the tires even in third gear if I am not careful.
I can understand putting them away due to snow, ice, sand and/or salt, but why do people put them away just because it's getting colder? Cold doesn't effect SMC like it does fiberglass, so why put them away before the nasty things listed above occur?
No fun driving a vert with the top up - we're thinking of getting a third-party hardtop to correct this...
Mine's a vert that I bought to drive in nice weather. I can't stand looking at or driving the car dirty. It is virtually impossible to keep a car clean in the winter months. I put mine away early because I also can't stand working on a car when its cold (no heated garage). I made sure I prepared it for its winter nap while it was still predictably comfortable outside to work on it. I'm quite happy letting it sit until Spring. It will be that much sweeter when I uncover her and take her for that first ride.
