Well coming done the road come to a stop light. Turns green and I go. Start to get on it then realize i'm about to pass speed limit so i let off. I ended up hitting about 60 maybe a hair over. So than i just start crusing and sure enough see the light and hear the sirens. Good ol CHP. After he rolls himself out of the car(literally) He asks me whats up with spinning the tires. I ask spinning the tires? "Yeah are you trying to show off or what" is his response. Well I know i was speeding as speed limit is 55 but i know i wasn't spinning the tires. He goes on to tell me he "heard" them didn't see it but heard it. Then goes back and writes me a ticket for no front plate. he says "do your parents know you have the car." " I am going give you a verbal on the tire spin and a ticket for no front plate. Don't let me catch around here again I won't give you the same break" What ever now i have to find the dam plate, get it signed off and then take it off. I don't get it I supposidly spun my tires and he just lets me off. Funny thing is i know when i spin the tires and they were not spinning. Oh well. Thanks for listening.

The "spinning of the tires" was probably just his lame excuse to stop you. This allowed him to take a walk around your car and observe the lack of a front plate. Like you said....put it on..get it signed off and go back to business as usual.
NO point in complaining about a fixable ticket that doesnt add points to your license. Enjoy the ride........

Got one myself on Thanksgiving day, crusing on a country road, clear sunny sky, no one around and doing 68 in a 60mph zone on a long bend in the road, nothing but woods on either side. DPS Trooper comes around a bend and as he gets near me, turns on the lights and does the "U". Funny thing is, my detector never went off. Either he wasn't running radar, or my RD didn't pick it up.
I pull over immediately, since it could be the only one he was targeting, and he starts lecturing me on where was I going in such a hurry, etc. I'm very polite, didn't argue, said I was talking with the wife and must have pushed it a bit without realizing it. He walks to the front, then proceeds to give me a ticket for no front plate, and 70 in a 60. Then he starts in on how I should drive safely. Thats when I had had enough and told him that doing 68 in a zoned 60 is not unsafe under the conditions and that I always drive safely.
Around here, its pretty much an "Selectrive Arbitrary Road Tax". They have to meet their quotas.
I think most of us have similiar stories. Take mine, for instance. Beautiful late summer night, nobody around at a stop light. My radar detector is quiet, and no cops visible at the corner gas station. So, as any decent and respectable Vette owner would do, I punched the "Traction Control" button, reved the engine a bit, and dropped the clutch, paiting a nice rubber strip across the intersection. Low and behold, a cop had apparently been parked on the opposite side of the gas station (after just purchasing a dozen Krispy Kreme glazed donuts - honestly, I saw the box), and he pulls me over.
Come to think of it, this story really isn't like yours at all, as I apparently broke the "law." But thank God for a little verdict called "Prayer for Judgement" that kept it off my record.
All's well that ends well, I guess, but it definitely sucks that you didn't even get a chance to rip a strip when you were pulled over for being accused of doing it.

The part about "...don't let me catch you around here again" would tend to get my attention. I think I would even ask him to repeat it back to me so I was clear that he was clear I knew what he was implying. Do you think he was saying he was barring you from that area? Hmmm. That could get really really dicey for him with his supervisor and the department he works for too. BTW, DPS cars have video and audio in them and that can be a two-way street for either a citizen or the officer.
BTW, if you want to go to court and fight it, you (or your lawyer) is going to have a tough time with your comment regarding "68 mph". Depending on exactly what you said, it could be used as evidence against you, as an admission on your part of your speed. It's called a "res gestae" statement. That's just a fancy Latin term roughly meaning a voluntary admission given to the officer at the time of the event.
If worse come to worse, defensive driving would be a good way to go.
Sorry for your misfortune.
