Today I bought me a new Optima Red top battery for my 2001 NBM coupe. $99.00 here at GI Joes in Portland, Oregon. My question is
what size socket do I need to use to remove the Delco battery and install the new Optima.
Thank you
p.s. I have to telll you mother nature is giving us a few dry days here and it was sure good to see my babies today, all cover'd up for the winter.
There's actually a little flat wratchet wrench made just for those terminal screws ... cost about 4 bucks anywhere from Walmart to Pep Boys and it's very handy and very fast. Quick, easy, and cheap ... a wonderful combination for all sorts of things I can think of!
It's a little wrench and I've seen it most auto parts stores. It's called a side terminal wrench or similar on the packaging.
Good price on the battery.
I just changed mine with a Costco one last weekend. The hold down bolt is 1/2". I changed the battery to a redtop based on all the advice on this forum. I am glad I did. The positive terminal was very corroded and it looked pretty bad under the battery. It took me awhile to clean it all up. I feel I avoided a major problem down the road. $100 is cheap insurance. I never would have know there was a potiential problem because everything looked good from the top.
Yeah, redtop on the way for my '01, also. I have had them in several toys for years with great service.
On the C-5, I started getting weird DIC readings, such as sporatically resetting to the odometer when turned off, no matter where I'd left it. All kinds of other things, like check this or that, which would cancel when restarted.
So, I checked the orginal battery's standing volts--9 !!! Yikes! And, I saw it was taking a long time to come up to charge voltage when started. I'd not noticed, I must admit. Don't know how long it has been dying.
3.5 years... pretty poor service length for any battery! The General does us again!
