Just get the iTrip. Plugs into the top of the Ipod, it's about the size of a pinky finger, no longer than the width of the iPod. It transmits the iPods music via RF signals to your car audio system and plays them through your system that way. It can be set to any frequency on the FM dial.
The iPod itself can be anywhere in the car. ie: in the glove box, laying on the passenger seat, in your pocket, in the center console.......anywhere.

Can't speak for the "iTrip", but I did buy a $65 wireless FM transmitter from Best Buy and it ended up being junk. Sound quality was horrible and it would continually lose signal. Again, maybe the "iTrip" is better, but I don't think you can macth the sound quality of a "hard wired" set-up with a wireless transmitter. Just my .02
Two friends have the iTrip and both love them. The one guys went the cheaper route 1st and bought a no name type unit to transmit via FM and it was a waste of cash.
He now has the iTrip and loves it.
He brings from the car into the office and plays it the same way through his dest radio.
Works and sounds great

Same for me, the FM station would not stay tuned, returned that baby & purchased the casset adapter which works fine, will try the itrip!
Anyone use this? I am planning on ordering this with the GM cable unless I hear some horror story. Sounds like a much cleaner install, plus I cad hide it in the console and control the ipod from factory stereo.
The iTrip didn't work for me in Chicagoland, too many stations around, it would never stay working when I drove around. The FM transmitter is very weak. And the sound is not that good either. The GM AUX10 from Tuan is the way to go, don't waste your money on the iTrip... just my experience.
I have the iTrip and don't think much of it. I had to hold it up near the windshield to eliminate the static. Tried my cassette interface and the Bose unit kept on kicking it out. IMHO, it's hardwire or nothing.
I bought the connector that plugs into my lighter. It uses the low end fm stations. You can choose from 6 to 8 different stations depending upon the amount of static. Not the best system but it is ok for now. I have only used it in my Jeep, so we shall see how it works out in the Vette in the spring. Someone brought thiers into work with the wireless transmitter on it and it worked great. The walls where I am at are all lead lined so reception is crappy, but that worked great.
