I haven't had much of a problem scraping, mostly due to not having it very long. I have andys frame savers sitting in a box waiting to put them on when my Ghl's get here this week. Lowering is on the agenda also, so I'm sure they'll really come in handy then.
I also trimmed 1" off the bottom of my air dam, and experienced no change in temps. Just to be on the safe side, I later reprogrammed the fans to turn on 5° sooner (stock thermostat). My Frame Savers are now the lowest part on the car.
BTW, there is a minor aesthetic advantage to trimming the air dam. As you have probably noticed, it is not unusual to see the three pieces hang by slightly different amounts, giving a "ragged" or uneven appearance to the bottom edge. When you cut it, instead of measuring back 1" from the edge, trim it for equal expose.
