I just picked my car up yesterday from a memeber of this forum and had no trouble driving it over 800 miles home
So, i get it home and wash it to go out for the night. I start the car, put it in gear (manual transmission) and as soon as i begin moving the car cuts off. I figure I stalled it so I tried it again...this time at about 3K rpm's, still cuts off as soon as I start moving. This last time I just put it in neutral and let it roll backwards, cut off again. I kept trying and eventually got it moving and it never has any trouble after it gets moving that first time. Unfortunately it has this problem virtually everytime I start it and the motor is still warm. Does anybody know what's going on??

Strange. Sounds like what happens when the column lock fails. The computer is programmed such that if the CL fails, the engine is automatically cut off if the car's speed exceeds 1.5 mph. Since you don't indicate that you can't steer, I won't label it as column lock.
Check if the computer has any stored trouble codes by following the instructions at the link below. Write them down and report back here.
The resistor pellet in the key tells the security system that the correct key with the correct resistor is in the ignition. If the car is started and the security system does NOT see the correct resistance value it will cut off the fuel when the car is moved.
You could have a dirty resistor pellet, dirty contact strips in the ignition switch or both. I would clean the resistor contacts on the key and see if it helps. Checking the codes is also a vey good recommendation!
I don't know that I'd bypass it. It's an integral part of the security on the Vette. I'd buy a replacement key before I'd bypass it and get my Vette stolen.
sounds like you got hosed... pointing you to a common problem that he knows nothing about. Figures eh?
Rain's a common problem here in Missouri and I know nothing about it. You know like, what it means when the rain is falling a certain direction, or the acid content, or when there is rain and no thunder. Seems to me that the rain is hosing alot of us. Common problem but yet, I know nothing about it. You can hear about stuff and never pay attention because it doesn't pertain to you. Then, you need it and wish you listened. just my $.02 Andy

Hmm, yeah probably should get a replacement key--I need an extra anyways. Oh well, started and stopped it a good 5 more times tonight with no trouble. Good times...
