This has happened to me three times so far in 1 month. I see a ricer in my mirror, I'm doing about 70MPH on I95. If they are close enough to get my attention, they just look and won't challenge me. Instead they roll behind me for a few seconds or maybe even drop back a little. All of a sudden, they will floor it, and pass me at about 80-95 or more if their cars will do it. I guess in their minds, that constitutes a race. They do not want to race head to head though, and if I were them, neither would I. I know I could easily catch and pass them, but I don't waste my time. I think some of them are just trying to get me to put on a show for them, but I wont beat the hell out of my car just to impress a 19 year old in a $1,000 car with a coffee can muffler and some decals. If they want to know what a Corvette can do, I say let them buy one.
P.S. I previously owned a 1990 454SS pickup (see sig) and it was not even recognized by ricers. They didn't even know what it was.
i dislike the ricers, too...however, i respect the technology...my son has a friend with an acura that consistantly runs 11's...my son has an '89 crx that should be in the same ballpark when he finishes-he paid $800 for it...i do like the fact that these kids learn to work on these cars, and that the cars are cheap to buy, and the aftermarket speed bolt ons are affordable...most of the kids do all the bolt on work themselves...i believe its a good learning experience for them...even though they won't admit it, most of 'em would really like a corvette, and many will buy one later in life when they can afford it...

I don't dislike japanese or foreign cars, I bought my daughter an Eclipse Spyder, my son a Subaru Impreza, and my wife an Audi A6. I also own a Honda Valkyrie. I guess my post would actually apply to any beater car who thinks hes fast but isnt. But, in my experience the majority are Japanese cars. The cars that pulled the flyby were a Honda Accord, a Toyota Corolla (96 HP), and a mid 80's Nissan.
I really don't care what anyone drives, as long as they keep their POS away from my vehicles.......I own nothing but GM vehicles. I refuse to own *** crap. You can't get away from their crap in almost any other product line, but I can in the automotive world. Personal choice

I agree, personal choice. The C5 and C6 corvette is the *only* GM (or possibly even american) vehicle I will ever own. There is nothing else in GMs line up that remotely interests me.
Oh man, another C5 Owned! I can just see the flurry on the Honda forum. I get it too, I think we all do to some extent. I try to exercise the same restraint. I just won't get a ticket for someone else's satisfaction. Some of them are fast and I certainly respect any car that someone has taken the time to put hard work into but a large muffler on a Honda civic does not horsepower make.

It has nothing to do with liking or dislikeing Japanese cars. I like Japanese cars. I thought about an Infinity G35 or the new "Mazdaspeed" Miata before I bought my Corvette (that was before I drove a Corvette too). I have nothing against well-made, well-designed cars from Japan.
It has to do with junking one up with a wing the size of a Boeing 737 and a muffler that looks like a coffee can making a noise that sounds like a cow with a severe flatulence problem.

I almost agree. I'm going to be buying a heavy-duty truck in a few years and I'll go American then. As for American cars, if I were buying new today, outside of the Corvette or Mustang, I see nothing from GM or Ford that appeals to me in the least.
Anybody can build a car that will accelerate quickly in a straight line, and it can be built out of anything....I've seen station wagons at the drags.
Take em out to a nice, twisty country road and show 'em what a Corvette can do. I know they won't see you for long, but they should get the idea quickly.

And I agree with the minivan fly-by! I got the Ford Taurus fly-by the other night.
