Put it in gear and take it up to red line. Just before you hit the redline it will say on your HUD

The shift light in the HUD really is a waste of Technology. It's very hard to notice and is worthless in my opinion. A better approach would have been if GM installed a stand alone shift light in the dash that catches your eye. The HUD one certainly doesn't and is probably why many C5 owners add shift lights to their cars.

When I'm rowing through the gears heading for insane speeds and twisting the steering wheel to go the correct direction down the road; that little bitty "SHIFT" light on the hud is the LAST thing I'm looking for! For that matter, I never even use the HUD. Its nice on a cruise to no where but, when I'm seriously hammering the car, I use the Tach!

I plan on installing a shift light soon!

Bill,

We never hooked up - I'm back in the country and we should get together sometime soon.

And I use my HUD exclusively - with just the tach and the speedo - especially and ludicrous speeds

I'm an old analog guy! I like sweep of the hand. We could meet at Mohegan Sun one night for dinner! We could also drop a few quarters in the slots!! They have an 04 Vert at the dollar slots. Wouldnt that be COOL to win!! Getting together would be really COOL!

I agree with Bill on this one...........that little shift light is worthless.
I have my HUD on but don't even see it unless I'm loafing.

The whole idea behind the HUD was so the driver did not have to look down at the dash, all the needed info would be displayed in his field of view on the windshield. I agree they should have made the shift light more noticable in the HUD display. I believe they did attempt to improve this in the C6 display, but I haven't driven one yet to see.

I mounted a Raptor shift light a couple of years ago right after I did heads/cam and gears. It's an excellent addition for HP driving. Works great and is easy to see in my peripheral vision. I mounted it in the upper A-pillar.
