as far as using a slim jim to defeat the stock alarm I dont know but, I've seen a C5 hot wired.
Sounds fishy to me...

if it does defeat it then the alarm, which would be like using the key, it would not be activated and would start a lot easier?
we need someone who knows slimjim. or?

I think I will lose sleep tonight!

I don't see how unlocking the door with a slim jim, will disable the alarm. That's not to say that the alarm can't be disabled, and the car can't be stolen. I guess that's why we carry insurance, right?

First you *** the ****, and then you ******** the ******** assembly. Then you slide the ******* in to the ****** and give it a yank to the right and up. Then when the alarm goes off you **** the **** and **** the right hand side *****. Then all you do is jump in and drive away!
Hope this helps!!

yeap that's what I was gonna say. You have to stick the key in the ignition to turn the alarm off, or disarm it with the FOB. Even if you stuck the key in the door and unlocked with the alarm armed, it will still sound.
All of the people who witnessed it being stolen thought nothing was odd when the flat bed pulled up, yellow lights flashing, and hauled it away.
Make sure you have enough insurance, and do not keep irreplacables in the car. (.02) If they want it, they will get it.

The problem with hearing "It doesn't matter what you do, if someone wants your car, he will get it." is that it tends to convince people that they may as well not take any precautions to protect their vehicles. This is simply not true. Many, many vehicles are stolen because:
a) They left their car idling while they run to the ATM or
b) They left the keys in the ignition while they briefly run into the house to answer the phone.
Auto theft is down because auto alarm sales are up. No, you probably can't say that it'll never happen to you, but you can take simple precautions to severely minimize the chances of it happening. Just using a car cover reduces the risk quite a bit.
Oh, and try not to park your C5 is a bad part of town. That's what a crasher is for.
but i locked the car with the fob, reached in and hit the unlock button and the alarm sounds ...just as was posted.
but i also locked the car with the fob, used the key to unlock the door and the door opens with NO alarm, so...
if somebody uses a slimjim to pop your door locks, their in with no alarm, making it that much easyier to drive away. or up onto a flatbed or whatever with no noise.
mine is a 99, actually go try it on yours. maybe yours is different. so back to the original question, can the door switch wiring be changed to prevent this?
thanks!

If the car was locked using the mechanical lock button, the slim jim will not cause the alarm to sound. Electrical locking requires electrical unlocking with the FOB or using the key OR the alarm is activated. I hope this is of some help.
There is no need to try and rewire your car. Always use the electrical locking button in the door or the FOB to secure and set the alarm.
