If anyone wants to donate a C5 for the experiment, I've got the slim-jim. I'm not gonna try it on mine though.

I still think the factory alarm would go off. At least I would hope so. But, if a pro wants the car, they will get it.

i also have a slim jim but dont know how to use it. any professionals out there care to join in? :-)
if it does defeat it then the alarm, which would be like using the key, it would not be activated and would start a lot easier?
we need someone who knows slimjim. or?

I have been in Law Enforcement fo 25 years and I KNOW if a thief wants your car he will get it .There isn't an alarm made that is 100% foolproof. What ever one man builds another man can take apart. He just has to decide if he wants it bad enough.I know of a case of a young man who went from thief to the honest way of life and he gave a demonstration to the officers. He removed the radio out of a 350 Z in 3 minutes w/o breaking a thing in the car,and didn't cut any wires. He opened the car in about as much time as it took with a key.

I know that if you have your windows down and you lock the car with the fob, reach in and hit the unlock button - the horn sounds and the lights flash. (don't ask me how I know this...... :o )

I don't see how unlocking the door with a slim jim, will disable the alarm. That's not to say that the alarm can't be disabled, and the car can't be stolen. I guess that's why we carry insurance, right?

Here let me give you all the information you need to steal a C5

First you *** the ****, and then you ******** the ******** assembly. Then you slide the ******* in to the ****** and give it a yank to the right and up. Then when the alarm goes off you **** the **** and **** the right hand side *****. Then all you do is jump in and drive away!

Hope this helps!!

VR

the forum censors wouldnt let that message go through!!

yeap that's what I was gonna say. You have to stick the key in the ignition to turn the alarm off, or disarm it with the FOB. Even if you stuck the key in the door and unlocked with the alarm armed, it will still sound.

Not to go off subject, but my 04 Audi A8 was stolen out of the parking lot here in Scottsdale while I ate dinner. It too had the computer chip key, factory alarm, security glass, etc. The dealer told me, after the car was stolen, that it was "unstealable" due to the security features and all wheel drive.
All of the people who witnessed it being stolen thought nothing was odd when the flat bed pulled up, yellow lights flashing, and hauled it away.
Make sure you have enough insurance, and do not keep irreplacables in the car. (.02) If they want it, they will get it.

Obviously, your car didn't have a tilt sensor, or one that was sensitive enough. Contrary to what many people believe, most vehicles are not stolen by MIT grad proffesional car thieves. Most cars are stolen by people who have no problem finding plenty of unguarded vehicles. I personally know a few guys who can arm a vehicle so well, 99.999% of all car thieves wouldn't have a chance of stealing it.
The problem with hearing "It doesn't matter what you do, if someone wants your car, he will get it." is that it tends to convince people that they may as well not take any precautions to protect their vehicles. This is simply not true. Many, many vehicles are stolen because:
a) They left their car idling while they run to the ATM or
b) They left the keys in the ignition while they briefly run into the house to answer the phone.
Auto theft is down because auto alarm sales are up. No, you probably can't say that it'll never happen to you, but you can take simple precautions to severely minimize the chances of it happening. Just using a car cover reduces the risk quite a bit.

Oh, and try not to park your C5 is a bad part of town. That's what a crasher is for.

okay, yes if a thief wants it, he'll get it.
but i locked the car with the fob, reached in and hit the unlock button and the alarm sounds ...just as was posted.
but i also locked the car with the fob, used the key to unlock the door and the door opens with NO alarm, so...
if somebody uses a slimjim to pop your door locks, their in with no alarm, making it that much easyier to drive away. or up onto a flatbed or whatever with no noise.
mine is a 99, actually go try it on yours. maybe yours is different. so back to the original question, can the door switch wiring be changed to prevent this?

thanks!
don
don, if the car has been locked using the electric lock button or the FOB, and then unlocked using the mechanical door unlock button, such as a slim jim would do, the alarm is NOT defeated, the alarm WILL sound, and the car will NOT start. The ONLY way to then return the car to normal is to unlock the car with the key or the FOB.

If the car was locked using the mechanical lock button, the slim jim will not cause the alarm to sound. Electrical locking requires electrical unlocking with the FOB or using the key OR the alarm is activated. I hope this is of some help.
There is no need to try and rewire your car. Always use the electrical locking button in the door or the FOB to secure and set the alarm.
