Default Blackwing vs. Vararam

I have a chance to pick up a Blackwing with low miles for cheap from a buddy and was debating this or a Vararam. What made your guys with the Blackwing opt for that instead of the vararam. I've read lots about both, just wondering

I had the BW before I swapped in the VaraRam. The VR gives better performance but the difference is not great enough to suffer the expense and installation difference. IMO, go for the Blackwing unless you're trying to squeeze out every last ounce of power.

Blackwing

VaraRam

If you can get the blackwing at a good price take it. If there is a proformance difference you wont be able to fell it and the blackwing is a easier install.

I am sorry if I hijacked your thread as I sure didn't mean to do that.

I don't think the Vararam was out when I bought my Blackwing. However, if I had to do it again, I would probably chose the Blackwing simply due to the ease of installation. The Vararam may give more HP at higher speeds, but I can live with what the Blackwing gives.

if you access to a lift the vararam isn't bad. We have installed two. I've only had the vararam so I can't compare

If you do dave68's "cold air scoop" mod to the radiator shroud, you can get even better performance out of the BW (or Halltech Stinger)

It is a little more involved that the base BW install, but less involved than installing a Vararam.

I don't have a link, but I do have the pdf file of his installation instructions. If you would like them email, or PM, me and I'll send them to you.

I'd pick a Vararam over the Blackwing any time, my buddy has his car with BW & LG Headers and I beat him with VR and no headers by about 1/2 car lenght to 120 and a full car by 150. I installed it myself and it was a pain in the neck for about 2 hours cause I had no lift but what the heck you have fun doing it yourself.

Consider one thing my friend is about 150 pounds heavier and his exhaust and wheels are much heavier than mine so that helped. Still if you're a performance freak like me go with what gives the most power.

my 0.02 cents
