Summary of one persons review

BUT BY FAR the biggest problem with the 8500 is that it is not durable. So far mine has been back to the factory 2 times and its needs to go back again now. The first time it lost its K and KA detection ability, fortunately I had a few days of warranty period left. The warranty department was very nice and friendly. Unfortunately, they did not properly repair the unit and it broke again within 45 days. Apparently the problem was a weak antenna connection, which is rather shameful considering that I treat my radar detector with kid gloves.

The detector started failing again this summer. For a few days during the hottest part of the summer the detector gave unrelenting continuous KA band alerts, when it cooled the problem went away. Then, over the labor day week end, at about 450 miles into a 500 mile journey it started acting up again on KA mode. Unlike last time, this time the detector realized it had a problem and cycled in and out of calibration mode 3 times before it shut down and displayed the ‘service required’ display, it indicated a "cal 3 error"

The reason why Mike Valentine will get my money every time

And I know about 100 other forum members that know that Roguevette personaly and would trust anything he says. That DPS officer mentioned is also on here

They big difference is you have an obviously big chip on your shoulder. I'm sorry that you are so closed minded you can't see they are both great detectors and feel you must try and bash the Escort. Sad and pathetic really

Also Radar Roy has found the V1 superior in the past and so has SML. Imagine that!

I also have a problem in the way this "test" represents the X, K and, Ka results graphically.
You should have a problem... that site sells every detector except the Valentine... I'd say they are a little biased?

Ok then try here they don't sell them

www.radartest.com

and SML the test listed in the one you don't want to believe is widely regarded as a quality test. But believe what you want you won't go wrong with the V1 either

THis must be an old test because the V1 I got yesterday has many features the test says it doesn't. I would assume this test doesn't reflect the newest computer upgrade on the V1 too.

If you read my reply (that he was quoting) here

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...4&postcount=59

It's not that I don't believe the test, it seems that it was a well done test by a respected tester....I just don't like the way they represented the results. That was the point I was trying to get across.

they are both GREAT radar detectors!

It just comes down to personal preference.

they both perform about the same.

for me, I don't care about arrows, I just want to know that there IS a "valid" threat and how many "threats" there are.
both the V1 AND the passport 8500 do that.

I love my passport 8500 (plus I also didn't like the "boxy" antique look of the V1)

Yes . . . affordability. I have had 4 Escorts and now have a V1. I have no complaints on the V1. I can afford it. You usually get what you pay for in the long run.

Has anyone tried out the new Bel XR65 Pro? It is basically the same as the Escort 8500 X50 with a few added features.

Bottom line is that the V1, 8500 X50, Bel XR65 Pro and the basic 8500 all gives us great protection against all radar except for laser.

Boy!! You guys get so hot under the collar over a stupid piece of hardware. I love my V1 but I'm not going to bash Escorts or any other vendor just because I have a personal preference.

As I said above, some of us prefer one, other prefer another.....

Peace
