Ummm... It's called programming.. it's something a V1 can do... you just disable X band... It takes all of 10 seconds to do and bye-bye false alerts...

To each their own. I never said that Escort sucked, and I do not see why one vendor has to be "Good" and the other vendor has to be "Evil" - they're just tools. Some of us prefer one, other prefer another.

Incorrect. New (or updated) V1s now do PoP and Killer Bee. Mine does.

Oh, and for everyone else - the case is made of magnesium - not plastic.

Yes, the V1 does suck in the city, but I don't usually do 20 over in the city. I speed on the Hwy, and that's pretty much the only place where I turn on my V1, or on empty rural roads with no seven-elevens around.

Oh and it does have the POP feature. I don't know if it works against the Bee III, but when my V1 turns on it flashes P-O-P

I would say the old style V1 was big and bulky, but the new style (well a few years old now) is nice and sleek.

The body is built to with stand the heat so I would say
V1 all the way.

If you want "pretty" then hire an "Escort" to look at your window and scream COP everytime she/he (whatever your preference is) sees one....

How many state still use X band for traffic management 2? Maybe 3? And of those 2 or 3 - is that across the entire state? Nope.

How many Walmarts, 7-11s, gas stations, drug stores, grocery stores ad infinum. use automatic door openers on X band? A couple of million? More?

Disable it - it's useless.

Function over form, it works every time. I think function over form has a beauty all it's own, that's why aircraft carriers, A-10 Warthogs, and M-1 tanks look so damn good! After the V-1 saves your butt from a double or triple trooper speed trap you will kiss it's ugly butt!

Dam I didn't know anyone still had the older ones (guess they still work well). This upgrade is a brand new Radar Detector (smaller, lighter, better) of course it is going to cost money. It is still much cheaper then buying a new one (even passport) and if one stayed up with the changes the newest upgrade to POP is only $55.00 which is much better than buying a new one.

if your defending the unit because you own one that's fine. But don't make me out to be some sord of helmet wearing window licker.

You don't think I turned that X-band off, not all electronic doors and so forth use X band, I was getting them on other bands too.

This unit is great for rural areas, but it sucks monkey ball in the city.

Now the Passport also gives some false signals, but I'd say it's about a 7 to 1 ratio. So I've giving up on the arrows for it's better sensitivity qualities.

I tested both units side by side before returning the V1, and neither unit stood out better then the other. Even thoug for front area protection the Passport get my vote and for rear the V1 is the better unit.

I don't know why every time the subject of radar detectors is brought up, it turns into a pissing match.

I've stated before, I don't own stock in either company and if one is better then the other. I own it.

Enough Said.

It's amzaing how many a _ _ Holes will come out and be sure to bash someone because they don't like the looks of their prize possesion.

I think you would be hard pressed to honestly say the V1 is more attractive then the Passport. They work nearly as well, both are upgradable and programable the smart cord is fantastic on the 8500 and the remote is a nice feature on the V. they both pick up from the rear and both have excellent radar coverage the V has the arrows and the passport doesn't go off like a spaz everywhere. And there are way more then 3 states that have muni's that use X so you certainly don't want to disable.

However I also have the 8500 in the Vette over the V (that I put in the A8) because the passport works better for me when I'm really flying around area's with a few hills it picks it up better over the hills then the V does and (oh my god I can't believe I'm actually going to say this ) it looks better. Big deal. Works better (proven for me) and looks better I may as well put the best one that looks best in the Vette.

And for all you people that want to bash him on deciding over two excellent detectors based onlooks grow up. How many of you have decided on a mod for your car because of looks, or chosen a different exhaust then (Stingers, Bullets, or loudmouths the best hp providers) because of the way they look. Serious bunch of hypocrites.

Well Said ...

I have had the V1 forever so for me to change would be really hard. My friend, getting his first RD, decided on the Passport. We cruise down the road with cell phones on figuring out whose went off first. Both were so dam close to each other and at times they both didn't go off until it was too late (good thing we were not pushing any speed limits). If you stay with the Top brands you will get enough protection if you are smart when you drive (slowing down when you see many taillights, watching traffic from the other side, slowing down in regular hiding places, not cruising over 100 mph).

If you drive like an idiot chances are no RD will help....

Have fun with your car and good luck with your purchase...

Now if someone can tell me how to stop my RD from going off behind a Chevy Trailblazer that would be good information...
