Alright, was chatting with this chick a friend of mine is trying to hook me up with and somehow my Corvette got brought up. She started hitting me with all those lovely stereotypes from mid-life crisis car, to making up for phallic issues, to old man tyrying to pick up the younger chicks (then again there was that 21 year old model over the summer...whoops ). Has anyone ever got that? The sterotype seems to be more prevalent in the NE, but I did get some similar ones when I lived in CA with my C4? What about elsewhere?
And why is it that if you own a Porsche you're the successful executive, but in the Corvette you're the redneck or "Tony from Brooklyn or South Philly" stereotype? ....when all we are doing is the buying the better sports car.
True, they like to poke fun at you but the minute you go "wanna drive" they're already in the driver's seat. And I do enjoy watching them squirm when they realized that they are too scared of the power when I say "go head puch it" and they go "ah no thats ok I don't want to wreck it".
Corvettes are muscle cars and are associated with racing and getting dirty in the garage, which is a blue collar activity----> hence redneck.
Porsches are associated with upper class luxury, real leather seats, and are status symbols ---> hence executives. How many porsche 911 owners are worrying about which catback exhuast choice to make? None probably because they are just not the kind of cars people generally mod.
Both are definitely coupled with midlife crises because, hell, what is the average age of a corvette and porsche owner....definitely mid 40s.
Hmmm...let's see now...I'm 49, been divorced twice, wear a heavy gold chain, worry about my thinning hair, have a flabby belly and drive a vet.
Yep I guess I'm a stereotype vet guy.
Go to "Rent A Wreck" or another one of those rental places with the old beat up cars. Rent the biggest POS on the lot. Pick her up on your first date in it. When she asks where the Vette is tell her you sold it and are very comfortable with who you are and don't need a car to prove anything. Then take her to Mickey D's throw a Big Mac or two down her throat because you find that those so called nice restraunts are only for people who need to be seen making the scene. If after that she wants to go home with you marry her she will forgive the lie. Tell her you just wanted to see if she was after you just for your car. If she doesn't want to go home with you drop her off early enough so you can take the rental back and take the Vette out for a cruise. Hey at least you had somebody to talk to over the burgers and after the rental you will appreciate your Vette even more

I have also heard that a corvette was a rednecks car . Whats up with that? I figured it would have been related to other cars, but a vette? I guess I'm going to have to jack it up on 33's, and see what it gets stated as then, lol! I think alot of it has to do with jealousy, but what do I know, lol!

LOL....I am 32 living the single dream...(corvette ownership). And c'mon 21 year old blonde 6' model...couldn't resist!!! Plus I love smoking those clueless yups in their Boxsters and low-end Carreras.
Well I never considered a C5 as a redneck car. A Camaro more so yes, but not the vette. I get questioned ALL the time at work specially because I am only 24 years old. Kinda funny one of the guys I work with actually just calls me Mr. vette

Actually good idea but I'll just take her someplace and get her drunk...ha ha.

...except i read somewhere average age of a corvette owner is 52, not sure about porsche owners......
The mid life thing gets under my skin. I have been driving sports cars all my life. I think it's mostly envy. Some married guys who can afford a Vette don't have the ***** to buy one - wifey wouldn't like it.

I think with the C5, (no offense to anyone) opinions began to change about the Corvette. At least for me it did. I didn't really care too much for the C3, C4... kinda "red neck" rep around where I live. When the C5 came out, damn, now that turned some heads. Well, at least mine!
