I think with the C5, (no offense to anyone) opinions began to change about the Corvette. At least for me it did. I didn't really care too much for the C3, C4... kinda "red neck" rep around where I live. When the C5 came out, damn, now that turned some heads. Well, at least mine!

I got nick named " Money Bags" when I had my Pace Car! I guess everyone assumes you have alot of money when you drive a corvette. I mean, there are BMW's , Lexus's, etc. that people drive around that cost more than my '98 Pace Car. So now I got a Z06, I wonder what I will be called next, lol! Oh well, I guess it's all in good fun.
I got some good laughs reading this. Usually on the weekends (if i'm not going out with my girl) my friends ask what car i'm taking cause if its the vette they wanna call passenger seat before anyone else. But most of the time I'll take the daily beater (Acura TL) just because people are jealous and very envious especially when they have been drinking......i'm not comfortable leaving the car out front. I've had cigarettes on the hood when i came out on night and almost flipped. So it remains in the garage on most nights when i go out. I know, its only a car...but its MINE so shut up
Seriously though....I'm 26 and my neighbors joke that i had my mid-life crisis early, then they tell me i must pick up so many chicks with this car, etc.. Honestly...i pick up more chicks when i'm on the bike. When i have the bike out they usually chase ME down. Its so much easier that way
Hmmm...let's see now...I'm 49, been divorced twice, wear a heavy gold chain, worry about my thinning hair, have a flabby belly and drive a vet.
Yep I guess I'm a stereotype vet guy.

Maybe I'll take the company Malibu that has been sitting outside aquiring a nice layer of sea salt.
It took me so long to be able to buy my first Corvette (I bought a 77 when I was 35) I didn't care what anyone else's perceptions were. I'm on my 5th Vette now, (a C5) and I still don't care what they think!
Lots of different cars hold some form of stigma in peoples minds. Kind of like certain cars being labeled as 'chick cars'. Reminds me of a bumper sticker I saw recently on a Mazda - "I'm not gay, but my Miata is"
That does **** me off sometimes. Usually it's some ugly chick that says something like "Mid-life crisis". I've had a HotRod since I paid $800 for my first car at 16 ('68 Dodge Charger). Since then I've had a Z28, 'Cuda, Challenger, and a Trans Am. I finally purchased the American Dream Car last Christmas. The only reason they are associated with the over 40 crowd is that most of us couldn't afford one until we were older. The reason you don't see a lot of 18-25 year olds driving them is that there's not a lot of who could afford them. But to the ones who can, more power to ya! (literally!)
I don't think people think vettes are redneck cars, camaro firebirds for sure people say that. The only vette that is sometimes trashy looking are C3's. I had a 78 myself. I think they look cool, but sometimes you see some pretty ratty ones.

Small thoughts for small minds.....
I guess I've had several "mid life crises" then
Mercedes in my early twenties, another Mercedes in my late twenties, Jaguar in my early thirties, Mustang GT in my late thirties, Corvette now at 41.
I get the same old crap I got in England "they are paying you too much". Excuse me? Their brand new Surburban costs what?? My 3 year old used Vette cost what???
i never really heard about the stereotyping on corvettes before until i was about to buy one. that's when a friend asked me why i'd want a midlife crisis/redneckmobile and whether the car came with the tank top and gold chain option.
i didn't let her deter me - i was in the market for a convertible sports car and it was going to be either the vette, 350z, or M3. it's obvious what my decision was and i don't regret it for one second. now i love the fact that i'm a 35 year-old asian fellow (that can pass for 25) driving a 380hp+ (with mods of course!) American made drop top! the best part is when drivers in the next lane look over expecting to see a certain type of person, next thing you know is i see the look of confusion in their face

Now that's funny right there, I don't care who you are
