Default Halltech Stinger report

Hey guys, I know there was a large GP recently on the halltech intakes and I was hoping everyone that has one, (before or after gp), could report on how they like them. I would like to know about performance increase, rubbing/destorting hood issues, and throwing lean codes. If anyone has dynos before/after that would be cool too! Most importantly, would you do it again, or buy something else?

I'm one of the first Halltech Stinger-R buyers and can sum up my observances as follows:

1. 13 RWHP and 14.5 RWTQ from this intake and Borla Stingers
2. Faster revs and deeper "growl" from exhaust
3. Seat-of-pants pull at higher revs
4. Pronounced benefit from addition of cold air mod (prevents 10HP reduction when engine bay temps rise)
5. Perfect fit - highest part of airbridge rests against OEM airbridge's indentation. Warhead filter is so huge that airbridge hold-down rivets are not necessary.
6. BEST bang for the buck as far as intakes go - Corvette tax does NOT apply here.
7. HIGHLY recommended

Great Mod can't go wrong with the Halltech Stinger. I noticed seat of pants improvement after the install.

I installed mine two weeks ago. The installation was straight forward and I believe the car feels a little faster. I didn't notice any rubbing issues. As for lean codes, I installed the intake, let the car idle for about 10-15mins..(I let it idle in gear, in park, in park w/ac, in gear w/ac to try to simulate a variety of conditions). I checked the codes and got none. I ran some errands in it later on in the day, getting up to 80+mph and I did not get a check engine light or anything (I didn't check the codes again. but I didn't think it was necessary)

I hope that helps..

I ordered one.....thanks guys, that's excellent news! I wonder how key the exhaust upgrade is, since I likely won't do that for a year or two. Considering the feeback, it sounds like I will notice a difference and that is all you can ask for!

Most codes are thrown on 04 Vettes and it sometimes takes around 200-300 miles before codes show up. Good luck.

I have to agree with Dave68, of the mods I have done, this is the single mod I did that was the best 'bang' for the buck, by far.

Glad to hear all the good reviews. I've been reading alot on the search function about the Blackwing and the Stinger. Just talked to Nate at Corvette Garage about 20 min ago and mine is now on the way. Can't wait to get it on.

Most of the "lean code" issues have been with 02-04 Z06s. These C5s do NOT have MAF screens and the extra turbulence/airflow may be more than the computer can handle without custom tuning.

bxblkvert,

The HP increase from a cat-back is very minimal on a mildly-modded C5, so almost all the gains I saw were from the intake mod. Generally-speaking, a cat-back's main purpose is for sound.

By the way, install instructions and the cold air mod can be found at:

I also got in on the original halltech deal. There's some difference, but I don't notice that much. A little quicker to respond maybe. I have a '98, no error codes.

Perhaps when I add a new exhaust, I might notice both mods more.

When do you all notice the performance differences? Normal driving, high revs, what?

when i replaced the stock pipes on my '01 vert with a Bassani x-pipe and Z06 exhaust i didn't feel any difference whatsoever performance-wise (although the sound was more than worth it). several months previously i'd installed the Halltech Stinger and i definetely felt an increase at the higher rpm range, at least according to my butt-dyno. i did, however, trip a lean code once but that can easily be reset and it hasn't come back since.
