I had a coupe and now have the vert and both were DD's. I love driving with the top down, but I live in SoCal so that is almost all year. (It's in the low 70's today.) I would think if you have a beater for when it snows the vert is the way to go.
Forget everything you've ever heard over the years about leaky, cold, damp verts. The modern convertables of today are as tight, dry, and warm as a coupe.
CONVERTABLE BY FAR.....looks a lot better ...mines a daily driver down here in vancouver...except for i have it put away for the winter because i don't want it full of salt...id do the same thing if it was a coupe so that makes no difference...convertables are pretty loud if you have the top up...if you have it down its fine..wind feels great

Either car will do just fine as a DD. It may just come down to how much storage space do you need - the coupe will have more. Good luck in your search.
I've had 3 coupes and a Z06, all DDs. Nothing wrong with that... I think coupes are the best for everyday. Don't have to worry about the low lifes cutting the top, if it is parked where you can't see it. Plus if you do want some air the top pops off in a jiffy. Or you can get the "glass"top and have the open feeling all the time.
Whoo hoo, my 4000th post! And the stars are updated instantly now!!!
A vette as a DD in Chicago winters? How do you drive in the snow? Isn't it a little low?
Gotta educate us Southerners on snow. Three inches is a blizzard as far as we're concerned. I don't even drive my Jeep when it snows!
Well....today is a good example. We have had about 12" of snow since last night. Not a day to drive a Vette, but that is because the roads are very messy, but not deep in snow. By tomorrow or Monday they will be totally clear, and dry in a day or so.
I would not drive a Vette today. Probably not tomorrow either. But, once the roads are clean I think it would be ok. Threre will be salt, and snow along the road, but not on the driving surface. I hit the carwash (hand spray) with all my cars regularly to keep the salt from building up.
I have a 00 torch red vert. Waited 50 years for it. It's a DD. Have 40K on it. Drive it every day... Love the rear driver. Handles well in the snow but only if it's less than 3", or it becomes a snowplow! It's quiet except for the exhaust (which is a Corsa system). The machine is fantastic! It goes, stops, handles. Just came back from a round trip from Chicago to Columbus and back. Got 28.8 MPG.
BUY ONE! Get one. Steal it, but GEEEEEEEEEET ONE!

ZOOOM
Hi I'm a new member actually this is my 3rd post but let me tell you from experience when buying a corvette you need to buy a convertible. First of all I think they look better top up or down compared to a coupe, 2nd corvettes are supposed to be convertible in my opinion, 3rd they're more fun.
I got tight when I bought my last one and got a coupe and hated that I did so I recently sold it to buy a late model c4 convertible but decided to go with a 68-72 c3 thats what I am looking for now.
trust me if you really want to be a corvette guy and be welcomed to the clubs, get the girls, have a "Real" corvette, and turn heads get the convertible!

Given this, I think the Vette will be fine.
Well then I'm still confused. If you "would not drive a vette today" and a vette is your DD and the only other car is another vette that's not your DD, what WOULD you drive today?
As I worte in the beginning, The Vette will be a DD, but I will have access to another car for the really bad days. I am going to give my current car to my son when he gets lisence this year. When I need it, I will use it. Would not want him driving on those days anyway.
My wife also has a 4wd. We use that as a family car.
Love the input! Seems like the vert is the favored model here. Keep the comments coming......
